There is no option for deletion for this app. Its draining my battery, and I read various posts they said that this app spy location and do lot of other stuff. I’m really confused after noticing it and reading such stuff. https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/yyv09e/private_compute_services_app/ https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-a/android12-private-compute-services/td-p/15268407 https://techwiti.com/private-compute-services/ https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/xjbtka/private_compute_service_fails_to_update/ What should I do, I tried to disable it but it again activates when I restart phone?

The most reliable way to remove unwanted system packages is using adb. I'm not familiar with this package though, so don't blame me if this causes issues on your phone :P

This is a bass system service/app and will definitely cause problems if removed.

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

Yeah removing it is a treble idea.

Fish or rhythm section?

So what you're saying is that they shouldn't drop the bass

Not a usual one no. This app is not part of AOSP. Is it a usual Pixel system app?

[–] SuperIce@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

It is a default Pixel app and is used by Private Compute Core to update the core's AI models. It's used by features like Live Caption, Smart Reply, and Now Playing. Just like Private Compute Core, it's fully open-source: https://github.com/google/private-compute-services

But I removed that app via ADB and my device works just fine

I cleared the app data, restricted background data, restricted app battery usage, removed any permissions, force stopped & disabled this, & it hasn't re-enabled after a phone restart.

Wait for a system update...😉

I removed this from my fold 3 and we're good so far. Mind you this is my "can I degoogle and unsamsung a z fold?" phone.

Please install some app manger app and give us the full dot name (like com.some.bullshit.app) and your phone brand and modell and provider if bought over one. We can help better then.

Could be a refresh of the Absolute rootkit scandal, at least it's not an AOSP app. It must be from your vendor or provider.

The package name is:
com.google.android.as.oss

It's listed in the Google Play store here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.as.oss

The source code is available on GitHub here:
https://github.com/google/private-compute-services

people say they removed it with adb. no complaints -they say.
probably safe to remove it.
keep a backup of package in case u think u might want to turn on fancy services in the future.
i do not know what it does

There is a disable button right there...

[–] Evkob@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

What should I do, I tried to disable it but it again activates when I restart phone?

[–] Toes@ani.social 2 points 2 years ago

Sounds like malware

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

And it looks to be unusable
