It's 2006 and Oblivion has Horse Armor and the racist president is bombing the middle east.

It's 2024 and Diablo 4 has Horse Armor and the racist president is bombing the middle east.

The cycle is getting shorter and shorter, soon you’ll wake up to terrorist attack, have lunch while watching Middle East war, have afternoon tea while the election of our lifetimes rages on, have dinner when pandemic and go to bed as soon as nature cataclysm destroys a part of the world.

The day after that, the acceleration will be so much that a singularity will form. There won’t be time anymore, everything will happen all at once. And we will finally understand what it all meant…

I will never understand how paying actual real money for make believe fake items in a video game became a thing

You'd never say that to my virtual avatar's face in his $4500 ensemble in Playstation Home in 2008

Like I think time is a spiral? It repeats but it’s always different. The “guiding” energy is the same at the same points in the circle, but it’s always moving “forward” (not in the progress sense, just a random direction).

It's really a shame. I think a lot of the customization options in a game's in-game store are usually pretty bad. A lot of them are just over-designed, often gratuitous and gaudy. However looking at the Diablo's stuff I see a lot of really cool armor sets, weapons, and effects that seem to fit into the world of Sanctuary. It's a bummer that it creates totally needless fragmentation of the art and visuals.

I can't imagine any developer thinking it's cool or good to know that only a very small subset of players get to play with some of the goodies.
