joining communities keep saying pending (beehaw.org)

Is it typical when trying to join a community on a different instance that it says pending? Or am I needing to wait for someone to approve me joining?

I have the same behavior on some communities but on some not. This post from 2 weeks ago says its a known bug and as long as you have the "Subscribe Pending" button it should count the same as being subscribed.

Same here, a bunch of communities I joined have "Subscribe Pending", https://imgur.com/Fu6Xoom. Everything still works though, I can see the posts and interact with them.
