And, by extension, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Melinda May, aka The Cavalry.

Or, if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't Disney enough for you, Fennec Shand might do.

Genuine question is mulan an official Disney princess? It feels like they ate trying to kill the brand of late

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

The Disney princess lineup has always had some odd inclusions and exclusions. Mulan is considered a Disney princess^TM despite not actually having the title, as is Alice (some random girl), Pocahontas (chieftain's daughter, which I guess you can argue is a similar concept), Moana (see above), Mirabel (another random girl without a position of authority), Tinker Bell, Jane Porter (although she is a noble, which is at least similar) and Megara. (From Hercules, in case you also forget that movie existed)

Likewise, the lineup does not include Nala, despite actually possessing the title explicitly. (Is Disney racist against lions or something?) Nor does it include Eilonwy, though that's understandable considering The Black Cauldron flopped so hard it nearly tanked their animation department. It doesn't include any acquired properties either, so as funny as it is to lump Leia into the group, officially she doesn't count.

Interesting how Esmeralda the gipsy from the Hunchback of Notre Dame is omitted from any Disney context

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Apparently the reason for that is simply because Esmeralda merch didn't sell. Go figure.

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I guess the true mark of a Disney princess is marketability.

My guess is it didn’t sell because she is a gipsy.

[–] Pofski@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

They also did not plan to include merida until people started pointing this out. They added her afterwards.

Alice, Mirabel, Tinkerbell, Jane, and Megara aren't Disney Princesses. You can find an exhaustive list at https://princess.disney.com/. Not all Disney movies have princesses, but all princesses have movies and must be actual royals in the movie by the end (according to local culture). They must also be humans.

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

I included ones that were considered a part of the lineup in the past, but were later discontinued. The princess lineup is flexible and liable to change at any given time. Most of the characters I've listed were promoted as princesses for at least a little while following the release of their respective movies. Alice was promoted as an initial member of the line when it was first conceived and her status as one is a plot point in Kingdom Hearts, and Tinker Bell was a part of the line prior to the existence of the Disney Fairies line. The official website only lists the current lineup, not it's entire history.

Phallic, is what that is.

Seriously. They're princesses, these are predominantly medieval fairy tales, modern firearms are anachronistic.

The Princess Diaries 3 when?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They had cannons in the late medieval period. Which is to say, give that bitch a cannon bitches love cannons!

Leia Organa, from Star Wars is a princess who shoots. If the gun nuts need more, she fires an AK-47 at the Blues Brothers.

[–] Subverb@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well actually, it was an M16.

[–] Ultragramps@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 years ago

I had a feeling I was wrong as soon as I sent it. Oh well. I really wanted to keep talking about how she makes out with one of the brothers in the sewer almost immediately afterwards. Or the flamethrower. So many Disney Princess moments.

The lady from Wreck-it Ralph has a big gun

[–] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago

And she's one dynamite gal.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

We have one already. Disney owns Star Wars now.

[–] gnuplusmatt@reddthat.com 0 points 2 years ago

Leia carries a blaster

[–] Potatos_are_not_friends@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Will Pixar make a movie where cops have feelings?

It can start where a cop is abusing his wife. His routine of shooting black folks, he gets a call where school children need his help, but there's a gunman in there so maybe he might wait this out.

Well somewhere along this journey and after a fatal accident shooting a old woman in a wheel chair and getting suspended with pay, he wonders if there's more to life.

he gets a call where school children need his help, but there's a gunman in there so maybe he might wait this out.

But he has a moral dilemma because there's a queer book in the school library.

[–] pachrist@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

If you don't tell me everything there is to know about these first graders' pronouns and genitalia, the United States of America I know and love is dead and gone, dammit. Do you want the terrorists to win, or have you always been a gender-queer, socialist groomer?

Rated PG for some fart jokes, probably.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 years ago

Columbia Pictures already did in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

[–] ohitsbreadley@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 2 years ago

Needs to be anthropomorphic cop cars or something though.

[–] mvilain@kbin.social 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As of tomorrow, she'd be arrested the moment she steps into any public locale in California.

[–] Kimjongtooill@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago

That could be the plot. She has to go to "the forbidden lands" without her crutch. She finds out the what the gun was giving her was in her the whole time and decides she no longer needs to open carry.

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

Don't we already? What was her name, sergent Calhoun?

[–] vegantomato@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

She needs to be a sex symbol of course, like in an action film. Then Disney can package this turd neatly, like they always do, and sell it to kids.

[–] ashok36@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

What about the girl from Brave? Does open carrying a bow and quiver count?

[–] FierroGamer@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago

I thought the exact same thing. As far as disney princess' go, she's pretty cool.

[–] numberfour002@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Disney should do it, and also have her be trans. No not really.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

She has a gun and she's happy to see you!

[–] mo_ztt@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

Presenting, Belinda! She sits outside a polling station in Mobile, Alabama, and any time some big white guy in a truck comes by and tries to break any kind of election law, she takes care of business.

Oh sorry. What did you mean?

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 0 points 2 years ago (4 children)

It's hilarious. Mulan was literally a soldier who killed thousands of the enemy. How is she not enough for these people? What makes her so different from Snow White?

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Also...Princess Leia is literally now a Disney princess.

[–] whome@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 2 years ago

You know the answer, she's not "white".

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 0 points 2 years ago

Also the princess in the picture open carried a frying pan, haha

[–] Seasoned_Greetings@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

Notice what the girl in the picture and snow white has in common that Mulan does not? Same reason you won't see them post about Princess Tatiana open carrying either..

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 0 points 2 years ago

Deadpool is very upset that no one calls him a princess...

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 0 points 2 years ago

Rapunzel, she open carry a cast iron pan.
