Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A bill backed by the speaker of the Florida House would also make wide-ranging changes to state energy policies.

A bill advancing through the Florida Legislature with the backing of the House speaker would delete the majority of references to climate change in state law.

House Bill 1645 would enact wide-ranging changes to Florida’s energy policy, something Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, has said is needed to ensure state residents’ power is reliable and affordable.

In the process, the bill would delete eight times the phrase “climate change” is mentioned in current law (compared to seven instances where it would be left untouched). Sometimes, the phrase is deleted from sentences that are otherwise left mostly intact. In other cases, the bill would repeal entire sections of law that mention climate change, such as a grant program that helps local governments and school districts reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The bill would also reduce certain regulations on natural gas pipelines, preempt local governments’ control over the location of natural gas storage facilities and make it so state agencies and local governments no longer have to consider fuel efficiency when buying vehicles, among other changes.

Climate change could remove the majority of mentions of Florida from states.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

its specially ironic since florida is a paved over swamp.

i bet it will be the first us state to be underwater because of climate change

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

It'll become the next Venice and Venice will become the next Atlantis

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 41 points 2 years ago

Fucking LOL.

The epitome of burying your head in the sand. If you don't talk about it, it must not be real! Delusional idiots.

[–] Volkditty@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago

In an ironic twist, the only current mention of climate change in Florida law is a non-binding resolution declaring climate change is a woke conspiracy.

Let’s privatize hurricane and flood aid to them as a result. Maybe Disney will trickle down some of their wealth to the victims?

[–] Facebones@reddthat.com 9 points 2 years ago

100%. Stop letting dumfukian states come begging the fed for aid then pissing all over the hand that feeds AND the problem. Tie aid packages to requirements to get with the program, sending them a bill in 2 years (or whatever)with interest if they don't.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 years ago

What wealth? Disney is on course to go off a cliff

[–] Hegar@kbin.social 16 points 2 years ago

lol rights disappearing faster than the florida coastline.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (3 children)

“Why do we have category 6 hurricanes now?”

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The Atlantic Ocean could remove the majority of land area of Florida from American coastlines.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 years ago

The irony of one of the firsts casualties of catastrophic global warming wants to deny it’s going to happen.

Should the denial of federal funding for the inevitable sea wall be hundreds of pages of redacted text? It's a conundrum.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Florida will just issue a restraining order on the Atlantiv Ocean.

[–] Bobmighty@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

I fucking hate living in this damned state. A state of hicks and psycho narcissists. All governed by a high heeled fascist fucktard. Go ahead and pretend climate change isn't a thing to please your hicks. This coming summer is going to be a whole lot of egg beaten into all of our godamn faces.

Fuck you Florida.

[–] DarkGamer@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They now proudly refuse vaccines to die of COVID, oppose legislation that would benefit them, and now Florida Republicans evidently want to live underwater. Destroying themselves is so hot right now on the right.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago

It's like a kid throwing a fit when their parents make them eat some vegetables and threatening to hold their breath until they pass out.

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So, if the coastal cities build everything watertight right now, the state of Florida can become Rapture

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nah, Rapture banned Christianity

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Once they realize Christianity isn't actually compatible with their hate train rhetoric, they'll shed it off too in the name of Freedome

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It isn't compatible? Because as far as I can tell historically and in text it works fine with fascism

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Return evil for evil to no one"

"Love your neighbor as yourself"

"Love your enemies and those persecuting you"

etc.

people cherry pick Jesus driving out the merchants from the temple as an excuse to go on a full on jihad with everything they don't like, ignoring everything else he said and did.

Republicans very much will kick away religion if it helps them stay in power.

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

"And those enemies of mine slay them and heap them at my feet"

[–] eddietrax@dmv.social 6 points 2 years ago

Florida really is the “hold my beer” state.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 years ago

That's okay. A lot of it will be underwater anyway.

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Florida Man at it again.

One wonders if Florida will ever see the end of men lining up to do the stupidest shit.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

In due time. Florida is running under the assumption that the climate gives a shit what they say

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Realistically it’s probably more like “rile up the base and the consequences don’t really hit until after my term of office is up”

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 4 points 2 years ago

“Sorry, this relief money is tied to climate change, you don’t have that here.”

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They think they can just wash it away huh?

The irony.

[–] acetanilide@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

If you don't test for it, it doesn't exist.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Don't look up.

[–] Pogogunner@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They should start putting up the sea barriers along the border Georgia now

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

The Georgia Dykestones.

[–] Declamatie@mander.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

Have fun with your hurricanes!

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Freedom! This will help rising Insurance Rates brought on by NOT Climate Change!

[–] reagansrottencorpse@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Florida is a shit hole, we should physically chop it off from the NA continent and float it out to sea. Bye Felicia.

[–] Uvine_Umbra@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Soo... What if we just replaced the term "climate change" with hurricanium?

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I would be behind that, just because it would be funny to read.
