Interesting, what exactly quantifies the power level of an air force? Number of planes? Lack of susceptibility to drone or doohickey attack? Ability to fly when wind or rain exists? Budget?

It's always budget. More expensive plane = more better.

Well, those top three rankings stay the same if you use both # of planes and budget. Most planes have very little to worry about in terms of drones, unless they are on the ground. The US just has really big and theoretically effective air power. Also, what Shrike502 said.

Fighter jets are only even "flight-ready" between ½ and ⅔ of the time, but are not flying anywhere close to that. They're also extremely expensive and easy to target when grounded.

We're at a point in asymmetric warfare where a handful of drones could visibly sink an entire carrier fleet. We'll see how much longer that "air superiority" matters, I guess

NonCredibleDefense is just the place where fedposting posts US defense sector propaganda in the form of zoomer memes.

Why does the US have (at least) 3 separate air forces

Since F35s are practically submarines they gave some over to the Navy

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 30 points 2 years ago

For the same reason dudes who live in cities need an F-250 to get the groceries.

[–] nat_turner_overdrive@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

Would you deny the navy and army the joy of smashing young americans to bits in unsafe wunderwaffen???

[–] JuryNullification@hexbear.net 21 points 2 years ago

The admirals and generals require their little fiefdoms and refuse to share.

[–] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Same reason Soviet Union had an air force and an air defense force. There's a reason to have your planes on boats be controlled by the boat people and not the plane people.

Mfw the guy making a point of repeatedly making anti communist memes saying they "support Chinese and Russian imperialism" overtly supports US imperialism surprised-pika

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

and when was the last time any of those air forces actually won a war?

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Wow all those air forces and you still lost to the Taliban.

Skill issue.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

It’s easy to have an a superior air force when the guys you’re taking on are all on foot
