I think the problem with me is I already know how to use vim (not that well either) and now I have to actually put work in to learning helix or kak ๐น

Honestly I picked up enough of Helix in an hour or two to be effective. Because it's based on Vim, knowing Vim gets you 80% of the way there.
That's encouraging, maybe I need to alias vim to hx ๐น
I've committed to a month of using it as my main editor. Only on day 1 thought.
