some claim the activity has become gratuitous.

I searched for mentions of Palestinian children on The Times of Israel (where that headline was from), and they only report on them if (1) a Palestinian child/teen throws rocks at a tank, or (2) when it's a story of Israeli benevolence.
Examples of (2):
- we gave this Arab kid heart surgery (they still often refer to Palestinians as Arabs)
- omg look at this cute little homeless orphan Palestinian girl that walked into an IDF camp in Gaza! Look how nice our soldiers are with her, never stopping to wonder for a second about why she is parentless and lost while they bomb the shit out of whatever was her home and family
These people have walled themselves off from the genocide.
