I love old folk songs, this tune is actually kind of a mashup of two songs, it's the lyrics from Matty Grove (which dates back to the 17th century!) and the melody of Shady Grove, a traditional Appalachian folk song.
Since I'm already geeking out, my favourite version of Matty Groves is Doc Watson's cover, and my favourite version of Shady Grove is Jesse Stewart's "Shitty Groove".
Yeah I love this stuff. IDK what all the kids are doing with all their faked-up pop music.
And this version of Shady Grove is absolute gold. I want to hang out with these people just chilling half-naked with their laptop work and playing killer music with their tiny dog sitting between them.

I guess you could argue that Caroline Polachek is artpop and 100 gecs are hyperpop, but I'd argue that both those genres contain the word "pop".

Saw same band (±) perform this in Norwich almost 30 yrs later, classic. As students we used to add 'actions' to dramatise it.
