Are there any Japanese curry blocks that are actually hot? Golden Curry extra hot is like a medium store brand salsa in terms of heat.
I don't think they're supposed to be hot in that sense, it's more of a vague spicy flavour that gets a bit more intense. These are the equivalent of ready made jars of spaghetti sauce, basic food for basic people with the most basic palates

They have shichimi togarashi and a chili oil variant, but I can't think of too many well-known spicy Japanese foods or seasonings.
I heard someone describe Japanese cooking as "the white people food of Asia" lol. Not to hate, though, Japanese food is pretty great.

I get that but why even market it in 4 different heat levels, then?
Maybe the hotter ones would be unbearably spicy to some grandma or 6-year-old
I haven't found any, but the curry at CoCo Ichibanya in Japan can be pretty hot if you get the higher levels
There's Japanese curry places in the US that offer the same amount of heat. They can get really spicy too
You probably have to make your own curry roux to get something substantially spicy.
This is such an easy, filling dinner
so I don't put meat in it, but I love some carrot-potato-onion curry over rice. Tofu is good too but I often don't bother. Seconding that I would love some spicier curry blocks, but usually the hotter ones are good.
My store carries it, I haven't had it in years, used to buy it and eat it with jasmine rice, so good.
Fuck yes love me sum curry mix, esp the leftovers, throw in some udon and dashi and u got sum curry udon sooooo yummy!
