Wow, that's a lotta war crimes. I think I count at least 5 different ones committed. Multiple counts of Perfidy, attack of persons hors de combat, multiple counts of attack of civilians/civilian objects, violation of rule 14 on proportionality of attack, violation on rule 15 on principle of precautions in attack.

Also, gosh wonder what would happen if you pulled a gun in a hospital in the US, which theoretically isn't even an active war zone. I've been in an American hospital twice during an active shooter event and the shooter got smoked both times before cops even set foot in the building.

Walking into a hospital dressed as a doctor and smoking three security guards is not the badass military op you think it is. Three patients, even more despicable.

Damn I’m an American and even I’ve never had to experience anything like that. Im sorry you’ve had to go through that.

murdering hospitalized people is a war crime, isn't it?

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 62 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is a straight up comical level of war crimes.

This is like the picture of the actress intentionally trying ro break every style guidline with a single photo, it would be hard to come up with a scenario in which you were committing more war crimes at once.

This is so many war crimes it legit seems like the point was to committ as many as humanly possible to demonstrate you can get away with it.

i choose to believe this to keep myself sane. it's a flex. big daddy U.S. is openly encouraging and protecting this.

the cool thing is at least the world is finally recognizing there is no actual "rules based order" but now it's becoming a "brutal domination based order"

the nazis basically won, yada yada yada

[–] Des@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

yeah but the veneer is now going away. the rules are being burned in a trashcan in full view of the actual, real international community.

the U.S. and it's vassals are a step away from full roman styled Imperium and Dominum backed by "what are you going to do about it you know we are crazy enough to nuke you all"

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 42 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Also dressing up as a doctor to infiltrate a hospital to carry out a war crime, has to be a war crime itself.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 45 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Yes. This falls under protocol I of the Geneva Convention.

Article 37. – Prohibition of perfidy

  1. It is prohibited to kill, injure or capture an adversary by resort to perfidy. Acts inviting the confidence of an adversary to lead him to believe that he is entitled to, or is obliged to accord, protection under the rules of international law applicable in armed conflict, with intent to betray that confidence, shall constitute perfidy. The following acts are examples of perfidy:

     (a) The feigning of an intent to negotiate under a flag of truce or of a surrender;
     (b) The feigning of an incapacitation by wounds or sickness;
     (c) The feigning of civilian, non-combatant status; and
     (d) The feigning of protected status by the use of signs, emblems or uniforms of the United Nations or of neutral or other States not Parties to the conflict.

Healthcare providers and patients alike are always considered civilian, non-combatants.

Cartoon bad guy country, but even cartoon bad guys don't stoop this low and yet israhell is the shining beacon of democracy yada yada

[–] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

The loophole is that perfidy is a made up word, therefore the content of Article 37 is actually gibberish

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They were hospitalized Hamas Gunmen and we know that because... uh... Israel said so.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 43 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Doesn't matter even if true, still a war crime. You cannot attack or target Persons Hors de Combat. You are never allowed to target injured persons who have laid down arms or are hospitalized, enemy combatant or no.

Doesn't matter even if true, still a war crime.

I mean, I'm just surprised they didn't bomb the hospital straight out.

You are never allowed to target injured persons who have laid down arms or are hospitalized, enemy combatant or no.

Well, the article says "Gunmen", so I assume they had berettas soddered to their hands a la Guns Akimbo.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

no its actually so bad that the BBC article on this directly quotes a witness describing them being shot directly in the head while sleeping

[–] emizeko@hexbear.net 29 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

one of the assassination targets was already fucking PARALYZED

[–] edge@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago (1 children)

American spec ops taking notes on this

[–] refolde@hexbear.net 46 points 2 years ago

Every accusation is a confession.

This is objectively evil. It astounds me to see what new lows settlers will stoop to.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 39 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The reporting that one of the men had a gun while literally doing assassinations in a hospital. This is cartoon villainy.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 30 points 2 years ago

"Hey Ted, remember to toss a gun next to that one before the pictures"

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 39 points 2 years ago

A literal war crime. From the Geneva Convention:

[...]

(c) The feigning of civilian, non-combatant status;

And, if they dressed up with the Red Cross symbol:

Article 38. – Recognized emblems

  1. It is prohibited to make improper use of the distinctive emblem of the red cross, red crescent or red lion and sun or of other emblems, signs or signals provided for by the Conventions or by this Protocol. It is also prohibited to misuse deliberately in an armed conflict other internationally recognized protective emblems, signs or signals, including the flag of truce, and the protective emblem of cultural property.
[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago

The early reports of this even said that the hospital was controlled by the Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry.

I think I have finally thought up an ethical use for the nuclear bomb.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I read this as nuclear tomb and I'm still on board

[–] MattsAlt@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

BBC had an article about this that spent 3 paragraphs talking about October 7, Hamas & Islamic Jihad saying their comrades were the ones killed, and doesn't question for a second the legality of dressing as doctors to carry out an attack inside a hospital.

Can't wait for this to be turned into a level in whatever new Call of Duty game comes out in the next couple years or so...
