Yes.
I remember splitting .zip files of single SNES roms across multiple floppies at my friend's house and then was only able to play them at full speed without sound on the family computer running Windows 95 with a 90MHz Pentium. 
For the unaware, there is a name for this - Skeuomorphism.
A skeuomorph is a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues (attributes) from structures that were necessary in the original.
