That's 41.5 presidential pardons

[–] resin85@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago

Or 640.77 porn stars.

[–] oxjox@lemmy.ml 52 points 2 years ago (5 children)

The sad and frustrating part of this is that he has plenty of cult followers who would gladly set up a GoFundMe for their "billionaire" "king".

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 37 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Fine, let them donate money to this pit vs. donate to fund his campaign or other Republicans.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

fun fact. these are donations to his campaign....

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Individual donations don't matter in a world where the Kochs have virtually unlimited funds in order to sway elections the way they like.

Trump's not going to pay a dime anyway. No one holds him accountable, so why would he?

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

I’m good with separating those fools from their money. Ms. Carroll gets paid, and Trump’s rubes have less money to spend donating to other harmful shit like republican campaigns or churches covering up sexual assault.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

With how he's been acting I think that well is drying up these days. As much Russia wants to contribute they have their war to pay for and sanctions make it more difficult (I hope), I'm sure his supporters are less able to contribute since they've given so much already, I doubt he's getting many new supporters. He'll still get more than most people can reasonably make in 20 years but it'll never be enough for Trump.

Plus I think his legal bills are catching up these days funny how a billionaire has trouble paying lawyers for even a handful of cases eh? That's like pay a few big firms type of money available, if it were there. Maybe it's just because no one will work for him but I imagine he could get a hundred decent lawyers if he paid properly.

funny how a billionaire has trouble paying lawyers for even a handful of cases eh

Assuming he would pay them if he could afford to

[–] vind@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Has he ever paid his lawyers?

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I read last year that lawyers now refuse to work for him unless paid up front since he's left so many of them out to dry.

State RNC branches are going bankrupt, too, as people are donating money to national and Trump and not them. Also Trump had the national RNC paying his legal bills but they backed out... and Trump's PAC (which he has diverted money from to pay legal bills) asked for a $60 million refund from another group due to mounting legal bills.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

Works for me as long as she gets paid. He’s never gonna do it.

Every reporter should ask Trump about Carroll to get him to say something else so she can continue to get money from him. Hopefully doubling the penalty each time.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 30 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Do it again, Donald. Show her how you feel. Bet you won't, you big chicken. Byuck, byuck, byuck...

[–] badbytes@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, a real man wouldn't back down.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

If he had large hands he'd already be on it.

[–] zcd@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 years ago (2 children)

[–] KLISHDFSDF@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago

[–] root_beer@midwest.social 5 points 2 years ago

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 27 points 2 years ago (2 children)

that’s a lot more than I expected!

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 42 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just wait until he defames her again! He can't stop himself

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 24 points 2 years ago

He did it in this trial when his lawyer was asking him questions about his own testimony...

He's 100% going to do it again, and she has no reason not to drag him to court after he does it again.

[–] TWeaK@lemm.ee 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He actually needs to pay it for it to have any meaning.

[–] oatscoop@midwest.social 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I imagine NY won't screw around enforcing that judgement. If he doesn't want to pay, he has plenty of assets that can be seized: like 721–725 Fifth Avenue

Sure, Trump's will try every legal trick his team can think of to delay or avoid paying out -- but there is ultimately recourse.

This was my actual verbal response after reading the title but in my regular voice.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago

It's that time again, friends!

[–] milkjug@lemmy.wildfyre.dev 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The $83.3 million sum adds to $5 million sitting in escrow that Trump already owes Carroll from the other lawsuit she brought against him in 2022 that he lost at trial in May, when the first jury to consider her allegations found the former president sexually assaulted her on an unoccupied floor at Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue in 1996 and defamed her as “a complete con job” on Truth Social after his presidency in October 2022.

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/nyc-jury-finds-trump-owes-221600368.html

Just adding this here - the $5m he owes is already paid into escrow. Let's see that $83m in the pot as well while he continues to dig a deeper hole.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Here comes the next 300 card nft! Only $299 each and if u get them all he'll send u a chunk of his prostate.

But he won’t though. We all know that.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Bullies don't stop until someone makes them stop, and no one stands up to Trump.

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

he claims he's going to appeal. In NY, this requires he put into escrow 120% of the judgement and fees with the State at the time of the filing. If he loses (or drops) the appeal, NYS cuts a check to Carroll & her lawyers.

this is actually the most likely scenario in which she would get paid.

[–] Bdtrngl@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

What happens when he refuses to pay? The absolute diddly shit like Alex Jones not paying the sandy hook parents?
