I did a local reddit meetup like a decade ago.

Don't.

It wasn't bad. It was just weird. Just a bunch of random dudes at a bar.

Here's the classic:

There's loads of photos if you search images for "reddit meetup". A sea of autistic, social outcasts with BO. It's kinda sweet 🥲

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 70 points 2 years ago (2 children)

There are more people in this photo than pixels

[–] RIPandTERROR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago

They had to blur the everything

[–] Tristaniopsis@aussie.zone 0 points 2 years ago

You mean lbs of people?

[–] Laticauda@lemmy.ca 41 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean, they look like they're having fun. Idk what about this image reads as them being social outcasts, or autistic, or having BO. Is it because a bunch of them are heavy set? Is that the only reason?

The only really odd thing to me is the fact that it's in front of a storage unit. Otherwise, it just looks like a random party.

Was the meetup at a storage facility?

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 2 years ago

Peak internet meetup for me was /b/, shockingly. A Scientology protest. Went with my partner-at-the-time, wearing V masks. Met a lot of genuinely fun, regular people.

There were like 50+ people who showed up. It was wild!

What were you expecting?

I went to one in 2012 because I just moved and didn’t know anyone. yea i didn’t go to a second

Supposing this is real, how do you even fuck up wiping, wearing pants and sitting so bad that this is possible.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maybe they were wearing really shart skirts.

[–] mmazikinn@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

this is why I always wear my inflatable buttplug to social gatherings

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 42 points 2 years ago

sure those same lads are on here saying bidets are unsanitary and confusing.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There's scratches on the metal. Could be rust devs

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We can’t discount that but which pants, popular enough to scratch these seats but not really any others that I’ve seen, have metal there that could actually scratch the seat?

[–] Xyre@lemmus.org 4 points 2 years ago

Given that they fold, it's very likely they were placed against something with rust. That possibly being the underside of another chair.

It gets bad, I've met people in some card shops that have just unholy hygiene.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago

I remember walking into a game store once while they were having a card tournament. It smelled like a mix of homeless person and unwashed ass. You know that smell, when someone just puts talcum powder over their swamp ass and thinks it's masking the smell but it isn't? I immediately realised why the door had been propped open.

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 22 points 2 years ago

So THAT'S what happened to the beans...

Me, a fresh software dev out of college: I can't wait to go to CppCon and discuss my favorite subject with my peers!

Me, day one, minute one, second one of CppCon: Never again 🤢

[–] Surp@lemmy.world -3 points 2 years ago

This is accurate in that there would be no one there so seats would be empty. I made a post on gaming Lemmy and it got like 237 up votes before it was deleted for being "low effort". Meanwhile posts are few and far between so I quit the sub. Mods will be the quick death of Lemmy when they can't recognize things like hmm we have low activity but let's be internet sticklers and have poor rules that stifle content and keep it boring.
