As much as I am against the death penalty, if I had to choose a method for myself that seems like the least painful way to go as it won't trigger the hypercapnic alarm response.

No matter what, capital punishment is just completely immoral. Some might even say unchristian.

Some might even say unchristian.

Never heard of Salem witch trials? Inquisitions? Christians love killing people. Even God killed everyone at least once if you actually believe the Bible.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Dude, modern Christianity is unchristian.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

Definitely the Christian nationalism kind.

[–] CherenkovBlue@iusearchlinux.fyi 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The USA isn't a Christian government though, so I'm not sure I follow your point.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Tell that to the Alabama legislature and see what they have to say about that.

[–] CherenkovBlue@iusearchlinux.fyi 2 points 2 years ago

Well, they're wrong.

Unless they fuck up the system and don't remove the CO2 properly, or the person panics and holds their breath, or any number of other things that could possibly go wrong.

If I was dying of cancer and a doctor was managing the setup, yeah it would be great. But some amateur putting someone to death with Home Depot leftovers because medical professionals won't participate in the death penalty due to having ethics means that it will probably go as wrong as their previous attempt to put this guy to death.

Simply put them in a small room and flood it with N2. Super simple and foolproof.

[–] snooggums@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gotta get the CO2 out to avoid the suffocation feeling, and they already have some kind of mask thing that they won't even share the plans for. Because it is amateur bullshit like all of the other execution methods.

These idiots couldn't make scrambled eggs.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

The mask caught me off guard. Why?! Just flood the room with N2, done.

So you want to create literal gas chambers...

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Hilter did it.... It must have worked. I recall that the chambers would have finger nail scratches on the walls which is horrifying.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

As opposed to a small gas chamber worn on the guilty parties face.

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 2 years ago

You're unconscious before CO2 even becomes an issue. Nitrogen gas is one of the favored suicide methods in form of suicide bags and similar DIY methods.

I'd likely go for guillotine. Brain can't operate without blood and if you sever all the arteries/veins at once it's immediate lights out when that pressure drops. Internal decapitation from a noose isn't too bad either though, but neurogenic shock likely takes a noticeable amount of time compared to just completely dropping blood pressure entirely. Not that you'd remember it.

This seems rather simple. The state failed to execute this man once before, just give him a life sentence instead like the original jury recommended.
