The original 32 episode Chinese version was very good.
This is definitely an Americanized take. Far fewer episodes and a more condensed plot. A ton of American actors to replace the original heavily Chinese cast. A decidedly different tone, going from more scientific mystery to action thriller.
I guess we'll see
Is there a playlist of the Chinese series on YouTube like there is for other ones? I save them to work on my Chinese listening from time to time.

This is probably the best free playlist. They used to have it in 4k on youtube too, but looks like they took down all but the first two episodes recently to try and get people to use their app. It's also on Amazon streaming.
I really enjoyed it. Kinda slow at times but the actors for Da Shi and young Ye Wenjie are fantastic.

I think I like how they're condensing the trilogy together chronologically (looks like Sophon will be in season 1, possibly even some Yun Tianming stuff (lotta speculation on who John Bradley's character might be). The books had a lot of jumping around.
My friends who wouldn't watch the Tencent version with me are excited for this. I hope it's good. Can't be worse than the BiliBili Dark Forest animation at least.
Gonna watch this series with them and tell them it's actually about semiconductor politics.
