Fuck cash bail. In theory it seems fine... leave collateral with the state to ensure you show up at your trial In practice, though, bail is too high to actually pay it, so people get a loan from a bail bondsman at exorbitant rates.

I've been through it. I got arrested for a crime I didn't commit, and it cost me nearly two months' wages to get out of jail so I could access the evidence of my innocence. The case was dropped before arraignment.

These assholes in this article acting like cash bail keeps people safe are ignoring the fact that accused people can and do post bail and get out of jail under the current system. It doesn't filter for danger to society, it filters for access to money, and hurts everyone accused, guilty or not.
