The death of Zionism has just massively accelerated.

previous preamble

BRICS has expanded to include Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Argentina is currently experiencing technical difficulties due to the election of the ancap clown Milei - once he's out of office, maybe they can try again.

I don't really have much to say about this one way or another. BRICS has, so far, made only nervous and small steps towards challenging US hegemony. This isn't really that unexpected, as only China and Russia are the real "true believers" in ending US hegemony (and even then, China's government either believes, or is pretending to believe, that reconciliation is still possible). Brazil, India, and South Africa are less enthralled by the concept of dethroning the US, most especially India, who had to make a firm decision in 2023 whether they were going to be on the side of America, or on the side of the Global South, and chose the former, strengthening their military relationship. They're still best of friends with Russia, but they are very obviously the sussy imposter of the BRICS group.

The prospects of BRICS are only really loosely correlated with the prospects of multipolarism, though. It's not a process that hinges on BRICS's successes or failures. It is coming because the contender states (in Desai's terminology) are irreversibly rising, and the US is irreversibly falling. If it will not be BRICS that leads, it will be a different organization. A better world is not only possible, but inevitable - unfortunately for the US.

I'm taking a week off the updates because I've been swamped lately, and also feel the need to reconfigure (and find new) sources. Needless to say that I've grown tired of Financial Times headlines, even if they do represent the actual views of the bourgeoisie.

The Country of the Week is Ethiopia! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.

I want to know when the next News thread is starting so I don't make a post when this one dies like when a game gets released near the end of a console's life cycle.

Danish fascist party New Right is dissolving itself, claiming that the are "too many right-wing parties". In the 2022 election they won six seats in parliament running on a platform of rabid anti-Muslim racism and libertarian economics. Exactly a year ago the party leader stepped down but she had to come back soon again as the new party leader was kicked out of the party for shameless grifting with party funds. Two other MP's left the party and a third one became sick, leaving them with only two MP's.

The rest of the Danish right-wing is welcoming the demise of their competitor and are now vying to get party leader Pernille Vermund to join their parties. They have no qualms welcoming a woman who headed a party that accepted membership applications from self-declared Nazis.

Local politicians of the party as well as their EU candidate was not informed about the decision beforehand and learned about their party disbanding through the media.

Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo heads to the Miguel de Asturias Cultural Center, where he will take the presidential oath.

After this session, as president, Arévalo will go on to speak to his supporters.

The Guatemalan Congress approves the agreement that marks the closing of the 2020-2024 legislature. The new Semilla deputies will assume their positions as independents.

The Congress decided to install the substitute deputy for Julio Hector (ally of Arevalo) of the Cabal party.

Declare independent the dep. Adim Maldonado and Inés Castillo, formerly in UNE.

They are trying to sabotage the government.

Drug Traffickers Carry Out Terrorist Attacks in Ecuador

They warned that they would attack police and military personnel during the curfew.

Over the last 24 hours, Ecuadorian drug trafficking groups have been behind terrorist actions such as the burning of vehicles, the kidnapping of police and security agents, riots in prisons and the destruction of a pedestrian bridge.

For the first time since he assumed power in November 2023, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa declared a State of Emergency with a curfew from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Previously, riots occurred in six prisons where at least 39 prisoners escaped, with 12 of them being recaptured later. One of the criminals who escaped was Fabricio Colon Pico. Just three days ago, he was arrested for alleged threats against Attorney General Diana Salazar.

The drug trafficking groups issued statements warning that they would attack police and military personnel during the curfew. This threat was immediately carried out since at least 4 police officers were kidnapped by criminals in the cities of Puerto Bolivar and Quito.

"Ecuador is under attack. Several violent acts are recorded in different areas of the country. Prison guides detained, police officers kidnapped, terrorist acts, and prison riots amid a State of Exception."

On Monday, several videos went viral showing inmates with covered faces subduing prison guards and forcing them to read a statement urging President Noboa to ensure the safety of the kidnapped public servants.

So far, the National Service for Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty (SNAI), the institution in charge of controlling Ecuadorian prisons, has not specified the number of prison guards detained by inmates.

The prison riots and terrorist attacks coincided with the search for Jose Macias (aka Fito), the leader of "The Choneros," a group with ties to Mexican cartels.

This drug trafficker escaped from a prison in the province of Guayas on a date that Ecuadorian authorities have not been able to determine.

On Tuesday, an explosive device was detonated near the residence in Quito of Ecuadorian Supreme Court President Ivan Saquicela, located north of Quito

And to think that during Rafael Correa's goverment Ecuador had a very low crime rate

Is there anything deeper to Ecuador than gang violence? I don’t understand that conflict. It seems implausible the gangs are just having a Joker moment.

Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo says he will be sworn in at 4pm, as planned.

But the situation is uncertain because the new Congress has not yet been sworn in. The demonstrators have broken through the barriers that were set up near the congress.

The demonstrators are heading to the Guatemalan Congress to demand that Bernardo Arévalo be sworn in.

The foreign ministers of several countries are meeting in Guatemala at the moment, due to the delay in the inauguration of the president-elect, Bernardo Arévalo

Israeli War in Gaza is Like the Rwandan Genocide: South Africa

The international community has remained largely passive in the face of Israeli atrocities, South African Minister Lamola stated.

Following the hearing held at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Thursday, South African Justice Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that the Israeli occupation army's actions are reminiscent of the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994.

In a press conference, he reminded that his country unequivocally condemned Hamas' attack that triggered the Israeli offensive against Gaza starting from October 7.

"South Africa has reiterated here in court that these atrocities do not justify any form of genocide. Unfortunately, the world has failed to stop the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The international community has largely remained passive in response to these atrocities," Lamola stated.

He responded to Israel's accusation labeling South Africa as the "legal arm" of Hamas, saying, "We have not filed any case on behalf of Hamas. We do not have any mandate from Hamas but from the South African government. Our case is not against the Jewish people; it is against the actions of the State of Israel - the acts of genocide being committed in Gaza."

The South African minister pointed out that the world is witnessing horrifying scenes against Gazans who are "massacred, buried alive under the rubble of their own homes, left to die painfully in under-resourced hospitals."

He highlighted that over 23,000 lives have been lost in Gaza due to "living conditions calculated to provoke the total or partial destruction" of Palestinians in Gaza.

Lamola reiterated his plea to the ICJ to "prevent the ongoing genocide" and urged it to issue provisional measures, including an immediate suspension of Israeli military operations in and against Gaza.

He stated, "The commitment to justice and an end to humanitarian atrocities in Palestine resonates deeply in the collective conscience of the global community. The scale of these actions is reminiscent of the genocide in Rwanda 30 years ago."

The South African minister recalled the global remorse "for not being able to prevent" the attempted extermination of the Tutsi population in Rwanda in 1994. He warned, "Let's not regret the same when it comes to Palestine."

Additionally, he asserted that "without the intervention" of the ICJ, the highest court of the United Nations, "we will witness the total destruction of the Palestinian people in Gaza" and pointed out "the horrific scenes of the city of Gaza being turned into a massive cemetery."

"The soldiers and authorities (Israeli) know that if they continue, someday they will be individually summoned by the International Criminal Court to be held accountable. The message is clear: they must end the acts of genocide," cautioned the minister.

Ancap Update: ancaptain

Argentina's Vice-President Victoria Villarruel failed to show up for a very important cabinet meeting yesterday to discuss the DNU and the General Law.

Rumors abound that her relationship with President Javier Milei is not good. Villaruel met with the former president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, at the beginning of the week in a secret meeting, which was later revealed.

The government denies any crisis between the president and his vice-president.

Coup incoming lol. Can't wait for them to switch from the ancap to the neonazi

Link (spanish only)

In the midst of her personal tension with Milei, Victoria Villarruel did not attend the Cabinet meeting.

She did not attend the inauguration of the new Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces and the new number one of the Air Force, where she was expected due to her closeness to the military.

She's a big fan of the dictatorship that killed and tortured people and sent conscripts to die in the Falklands.

President Javier Milei headed this Tuesday a new Cabinet meeting at the Casa Rosada, focused on the debate that started in the Chamber of Deputies on the mega package of laws sent to Congress for the extraordinary sessions and, also, the evolution of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU), which deregulates the national economy.

The meeting of the Head of State with his ministers and collaborators started at 8:40 a.m. and ended at 10:18 a.m., in the Eva Perón room, on the second floor of the Government House. The most striking feature of the meeting was the absence of the vice-president, Victoria Villarruel, who, as reported by Tiempo in its printed edition on Sunday, has a deep rift with Javier Milei.

Within the government, there are those who maintain that the relationship between the President and the Vice-President is already broken, exactly one month after they assumed the highest national political positions. To different episodes that took place even in the last part of the electoral campaign, there was added one that would have provoked Milei's fury and the definitive cut of a personal relationship, which seemed at least cordial: an alleged meeting between Villarruel and Mauricio Macri, which at first was a journalistic version but that neither of the two parties came out to deny in public.

What is already a certainty is that Villarruel and Macri share the view that Milei and Patricia Bullrich "cut themselves off", after the electoral agreement between La Libertad Avanza and the PRO, which allowed them to win comfortably in the ballot. The current president repeated a thousand times during the campaign that Security and Defense were two areas of which he did not speak "because the specialist in the matter is Victoria and she will be in charge of those ministries". But Bullrich stayed with Security and imposed Luis Petri, his running mate in Patricia's failed presidential adventure, no less than in Defense.

After missing the cabinet meeting in the morning, on Tuesday there was another striking attitude of Villarruel. His familiarity with the military world suggested that he would be present at the inauguration of the new Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Xavier Julián Isaac, or of the new Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Fernando Mengo. But none of that happened. Both brigadiers took office before Luis Petri and were only accompanied by active and retired military authorities, the Indian Ambassador to Argentina, Dinesh Bhatia and military attachés from foreign countries. Victoria Villarruel did not even greet them through her social networks.

The CUT (Unified Workers' Central) and the MST (Landless Workers' Movement) and their partners coordinated dozens of pro-democracy, pro-Lula demonstrations in remembrance of last year's failed coup attempt yesterday.
