I think it was Hasan who touched on this thought process recently in the U.S. population in particular, that they're so used to drone striking brown people that it doesn't really register and is considered a more pure form of warfare, but Palestinians going out and shooting people they can see in front of them is more visceral.

Surgical strike. It’s very intentional.

Israel is shooting so many bombs that it's impossible to be surgical for all of them, although I'm sure some of them are carefully targeted when they want a particular ambulance or journalist dead.

By surgical strike you mean bombing hospital surgery rooms, right?

Someone didn’t get the memo.

[–] Aryuproudomenowdaddy@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

No the real surgical strike is when they have missiles that shoot out hundreds of surgical scalpels on impact.

So they are saying if Hamas gets their hands on a nuke and uses it, they automatically become the most moral army?

"You see your honor, I'm actually a huge piss-soaked coward, which means that my actions don't merit the negative adjectives I usually reserve for people with orders of magnitudes more courage than me."

It's not a war crime unless it's from the war crimes region otherwise it's a sparkling air strike.

it's not murder if it's done at a distance. Therefore all gun violence that causes death is no longer murder :)

We did it, amerikkka!

This is where the logic of "it's okay to kill as long as it's humane" gets you.

To unjerk for a second, they don't view it as murder or brutal because

CW: racism against Palestinians

spoiler

They are viewing them as subhuman. They're no longer people. You can't murder a subhuman, according to fascists. You get rid of an invasive species that's taking up valuable land. It's not brutal, it's efficient.

This tactic of dehumanization has been used over and over to justify genocide. I'd recommend this book "Less than Human, Why we Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others" if anyone is interested in what i'm saying. It holds up from a leftist POV - it talks about how the genocide always happens for a material reasons such as a desire for land/free labor, and then a dehumanizing rhetoric is created and used to declare those in the way as either dangerous, too unintelligent to make their own decisions, or dirty and uncivilized in a way that is threatening. Same exact pattern with very similar arguments happening over and over again.

I know we all know this, but seriously this book is really good and shows over and over how it happens.

Kkkanada in this case. CBC is our government subsidized radio and TV. About half way between BBC and PBS. It's got educational stuff and lots of local shows but also aired the Simpsons every day at 5.

Of course it's being done remotely, have you seen those IOF videos? They're lucky if their soldiers can manage to shoot a door that's right in front of them, nevermind an actual combatant.

[–] jonne 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They didn't miss when it came to shooting their own hostages.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

Amazing justification they always give too; they thought the unarmed, white flag waving people were Hamas as though it wasn't against international law to shoot those who surrender.

And of course it won't make them rethink what they're doing.

The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic.

Sadly even when you show them actual pictures of dead individual Palestinian children, you just know their thought process is well they probably didn't condemn Hamas

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

Reminds me of something I read (can't remember if it was by a french person or an Israeli) that said what Hamas did was actually brutal cause they're there actually killing people face to face compared to people who do it remotely because there isn't this process of killing someone with a weapon but instead only pushing a button (so basically what this article is saying).

even if this logic did hold up (it doesn't) they're just going to pretend the IOF isn't executing school rooms full of kids at point blank range?
