This is high art. This needs to be on display at the Tate.

For the non-Brits, who is this guy?

[–] fubarx@lemmy.ml 34 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Jacob Rees-Mogg: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Rees-Mogg

Incidentally, the hedge fund he co-founded just announced it was shutting down: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67648262

Is there actual reason to think this guy had something like a short position on the British economy before contributing to Brexit or is it just a meme

There's the small matter of his Dad, a former editor of The Times, having written a book about how to profit from disaster capitalism.

The apple didn't fall from the tree

This is what people not from the UK (and a fair few who are) always fail to recognise: the Upper Class are engaged in economic war against everyone else, their goal is to maintain a local hegemony and they have been doing this continuously since at least the 11th Century.

A revolution would be glorious.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 years ago

That's something, I guess. Maybe we wouldn't know specifically how he took advantage of it because the trades aren't public record.

The worst kind of conservative, notorious for things like sleeping in parliament, and being vocally and actively anti-choice while profiteering from the sale of abortion pills, but gets away with much much worse.
Smarmy cunt.

Walter the softy.

As a note, the guys who publish these mashups are called PoliticsJOE and they have a great YouTube channel for independent British news.

They also for some reason publish these.

Not that I dislike the videos, that's how I found the channel.

It's just they make up maybe 5% of the posted content (the rest of which is actual journalism lol).

I’m pretty sure it’s just because they dislike immigrants

[–] 13esq@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The elite love immigrants. Why pay a stuck up English cunt £35000pa when you can get a desperate migrant that's willing to live in your slum and work for minimum wage?

Immigration was just a useful tool to turn the plebs against the EU whilst the elite worked to protect the game that they've rigged against the average man.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Exactly. Don't mistake conservative politicians for their knuckle dragging electorate.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is this how they love in UK?

[–] 13esq@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

It's a type of love

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

two things can be true at the same time

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago

One does not exclude the other.
