Talk about whatever, respecting the rules established by Lemmygrad. Failing to comply with the rules will grant you a few warnings, insisting on breaking them will grant you a beautiful shiny banwall.

A community for comrades to chat and talk about whatever doesn't fit other communities

There's been a ton of talk on Lemmygrad (and in this community in particular) in the recent months about having better spaces for socialist/communist fiction writers, and after holding off for a long time I decided to finally make a worldbuilding community on here! It's something I really love doing and I'm a socialist, so I hope I can help make it a nice place for socialist worldbuilders and writers in general. Doesn't have to be explicitly socialist or leftist worlds, it's more a community for socialists as opposed to specifically socialist writing.

I will be transferring my existing lore posts from Reddit onto there in a bit, after I edit them as most of them are from years ago and my worlds have changed. I'd love to see what all my comrades have created as well!

Funny, this is actually why I created an account on Lemmygrad in the first place. You probably know me by my Lemmy.ml account since that's what I normally use to participate on here, but I feel that if I'm to moderate a community it should be done from an in-instance account. That and in case Lemmygrad decides to defederate with Lemmy.ml.

Sweet, I'm currently in the process of writing a story set in Black City in Unova, with themes of capitalist dystopia and class conflict since these things are never explicitly talked about in the games :))

Damn, socialist Pokemon? Would absolutely love to see it!

Yes! Black City is described as a "modern city of ongoing development", and the mayor in game is a greedy capitalist who loves money, it's the perfect setting for class conflict, especially after the events of BW2 and the consequences of the attacks on Unova by Team Plasma. An economic downturn gives rise to a Unovan nationalist strongman whose family used to be Unovan nobility back during the time of the Kingdom of Unova.

I love it, seems like you took a great care in tying it into the official lore, definitely something I'd follow and read!

Thank you so much! I love the richness of the Pokémon world but there's no clear explanation for how certain systems might work, like Gym Leaders. Are they appointed by the Pokémon League or is it inherited (ex. Janine and Flannery)?

Maybe Gyms started the city structure because it was where trainers naturally flocked, and so businesses would be built around it. Maybe the idea of a Pokémon type specialist always existed and a place where you could challenge them would eventually evolve into the Gym format.

It's because the game doesn't specify how things work that make me so interested in exploring the possibilities!

(This is my special interest I could go on about this all day/night lol..)

That's great! I haven't done any writing or worldbuilding in years and I want to start again.

Hopefully I can be the catalyst to get you creating again!
