I thought it would be a cool idea to do a poll right before the year ends to see what everyone is using

VPN user voting is not allowed

WTF, why? I’m not turning off my VPN.

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Yup. Add me to the list of non voters due to VPN.

[–] Backhandedsmack@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

Same. Immediate nope out.

[–] Fades@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

I did turn mine off and it still denied me for the same reason lol

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I’m not even using a VPN and received that message

Voyager, with Avelon as backup to find already read hidden posts as Voyager is a bit of a pain for that.

also

[–] TheGreenGolem@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Lemmy as a whole is a pain for that. It's one thing when in the feed I read/vote/comment something and I want that hidden from the feed to remove clutter. But when I specifically search for it or browse a community I don't want those posts hidden. Obviously.

[–] mateomaui@reddthat.com 4 points 2 years ago

Yeah, it’s easy to hide but difficult to show hidden in most apps. That’s why I appreciate Avelon’s “Show Read Posts” option under the 3 dots on the main feed.

[–] ooo@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I use Avelon, with Voyager as backup.

I also cannot vote for the same reason.

I prefer Voyager because it doesn't sell my identity and current location to 3rd parties (DDG app confirms this). And it's a straightforward app with most of the features I miss from Relay for reddit.

[–] solidgrue@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Voyager app (Droid-ify, IzzyOnDroid) on mobile, and Alexandrite on desktop. Evocative of the kind of experience delivered by apps like Relay and browser extensions like RES, to name two at random from a small sample.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I just found Alexandrite and it is eye-opening! Beautiful and every feature is perfectly intuitive

Eternity has been perfect for my needs after Liftoff went on break. I can't vote because of my VPN, though.

Edit: That is, I can't vote on Strawpoll. Eternity works perfectly!

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Eternity is just the best. It's not the most slick looking but it is feature rich and so snappy!

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Sync was Reddit for me. Sync is Lemmy for me.

[–] Tomato666@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Was Jerboa, but a version issue forced me to Voyager. I'm happy with Voyager too.

[–] Fake4000@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah. I started with jerboa initially then jumped on eternity for some time. Now using voyager.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thunder for now, unless Liftoff gets patched for 0.19

[–] AlpacaChariot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Liftoff is so good, I don't know what I'll do if it stops working

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Something off with it to me, I have been using Jerboa mostly and boost if there are issues. It might be the having to hold down instead of tap to minimize things I've read, or the dark mode having to have the blue instead of just being grey, I keep going back to Jerboa

[–] wolfshadowheart@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You can completely customize boosts backgrounds to be whatever you want. I have mine AMOLED.

Primarily was Liftoff, but since the dev is busy with IRL. Then I moved to Jerboa as the main app.

[–] newcockroach@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I used liftoff too but now i use voyager, it quite good too.

[–] buycurious@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I was using Memmy initially but ran into an issue with top comments not being displayed.

I’ve since switched to Voyager and it’s pretty good so far. A few quirks that I think are still being worked through with swipe navigation, but I’m sure it’ll get pinned down.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

That’s good to know. I’m new and by chance fell into Memmy. It’s always weird and crashes randomly.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 6 points 2 years ago
[–] HollandJim@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

For iOS it’s Voyager or the browser for me. I’m still hooked on old.style.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I use my instance' website in-browser (Firefox) ... is that really so uncommon as to not be an option here?

[–] laverabe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

same, I don't get the point of apps for something that works perfectly fine in a web browser (desktop or mobile)

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well it's specifically a poll about which app you're using so...

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Firefox is an app, as are Chrome and so many others, but any more it would be more appropriate to list "web-browser" or "website" as a polling option, as almost no-one is looking to switch or try a different browser over a single use-case/website.

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 2 points 2 years ago

It specifically says Lemmy app. Firefox is not a Lemmy app, it's a web browser.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Voyager as an app on one device, Voyager as a PWA on another. App seems to work better.

Boost as a backup. Backup mostly in the sense that sometimes I open that instead. Voyager has the lead, but Boost is worth keeping an eye on.

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Liftoff has decent market share, shame the creators seemed to have went silent :(

[–] PuddingFeeling907@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

Mlem for me!

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It was Bean, but it seems development has either stopped or slowed drastically. Now I’m back and forth between Thunder and Voyager.

[–] Aurelius@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Are we counting web apps here? I made Quiblr and I use it as my daily driver lol

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Wow I thought almost no one else used connect, 3rd place?

[–] Delusion6903@discuss.online 2 points 2 years ago

I've been through a few but Summit is my current go-to.

[–] loopy@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

If you’re on iOS and haven’t tried Lemma, it’s pretty nice. I was on Voyager, then Avelon, then back to Memmy, but I have to say Lemma is my overall favorite right now.

[–] Mixairian@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago
[–] giantfloppycock@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Memmy. Works fine for me.

[–] AdmiralShat@programming.dev 1 points 2 years ago

I've used all the ones on the poll, but Boost takes the cake.

[–] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Memmy, or Remmel would be what I use. But how do I find my Instance link?

[–] pixelscience@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Sync!

It was nice to migrate straight from Reddit and have the app seamlessly just switch right over.
