Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

Some highlights:

  • bone cells can grow directly on titanium
  • they implant a titanium connector in the bone, extending out and protruding from the stump, which the detachable prosthesis connects to
  • they surgically implant electrodes in the stump rather than on it, right on the nerves inside the muscles
  • for amputations above the elbow, they actually redirect nerves that used to go to the hand to instead go to small existing muscles above the amputation
  • nerve signals are too small for the electrodes, so the electrodes are designed to read the muscle fibers, basically to amplify the signal
  • implantable part has no batteries, powered by patient's body
  • prosthesis has an AI that is trained to interpret the signals
  • brain-controlled prostheses can be used to treat phantom limb pain,
  • phantom limb pain arises because the brain gets confused and thinks the missing limb is frozen or twisted in a bad way
  • the hand has a sense of touch, which is relayed back to the patient via the same nerves that used to receive hand touch signals!
  • ...it costs $10k :/ but I expected worse tbh

$10k sounds a bit too good to be true? Probably not including "installation".

Wait, it's only $10k? Maybe I'm just used to looking at American healthcare prices but my aunt has a normal prosthetic leg, nothing bionic about it, and it cost her $30k.

my guess is that's the bare production cost of the prosthesis without a "$50 bandages" insurance company markup

its called osseointegration, very brutal side effects if something goes wrong. one person said that they got an infection so bad it was killing their nerves in waves all the way up their thigh. it seems on smaller bones re: your forearm it seems like a solid choice, but on a femur or something you should prob just use a normal prosthesis

Can't wait to get a 20mm cannon for an arm like the Sentenced to War series

this seems incredibly dangerous, how do they handle infection from having what is essentially an open wound??

i literally cant find any information on this

so its called osseointegration and it has a fuckton of horror stories. it looks good on paper in many instances but with large implants especially on big bones like the femur complications spring up and hit you quick. one very nsfw story on reddit about it https://www.reddit.com/r/amputee/comments/si7meo/osseointegration_and_my_personal_experience_with/ they said they were too athletic for the osseo, youre supposed to be very gentle, the implant cant take much torque
