The indigenous population of Lucanamarca literally almost got killed by Fujimori's thugs in order to get them to come over to kick out the Sendero militants.
I know a Peruvian person who is indigenous and radical in their politics.
They weren't aware of how much Spanish I spoke, or at least used to - I'm not much for talking Spanish anymore but I still understand enough to get by. Long story short, there was an MLM who started moving in the same circles as them and the scorn they had when they spoke to their partner in Spanish within earshot of me about the Senderista spoke volumes to me.
