Those who have behaved admirably, in some cases altruistically, have done so for naught—what happens on earth stays on earth.

Imagine this not being a good enough reason to behave altruistically -- to make things better for people on earth.

(The whole article reads like satire. I didn't eat the onion, did I?)

"why even bother being a good person if I don't get rewarded for it??" - Man, supposedly morally correct

Bill Donohue has been around a long time. I don't think the Catholic League is much more than just him. And he is serious.

Even after reading the title of the article I had to do a double take because I really thought it was the onion.

Wow, that guy is a real negative Nelly

Seriously whoever wrote that article needs to repent of being so judgmental and bitter towards 99% of the world's population.

That bro needs to touch grass.

He talks about joy, but you can tell how bitter he is from his writing. Few people do this as well as Catholics, in my experience.

It's sad that there are people writing trash like this. Person who wrote this just projects his own beliefs onto others and doesn't even try to look at things from a different point of view.

My family is Jewish. We never celebrated Christmas when I was growing up. No tree, no wreath, no carols, no yule log, no advent calendar, none of it.

So yeah, Christmas joy does elude me. Not because I'm an atheist, because I wasn't raised in a Christian environment.

That said, I did spend one Christmas in the UK and it was much more enjoyable as it was much more secular.

I went to a school show last week, and there was a morality play skit presented by the fourth graders. The middle part had the children singing a parody of Deck the Halls. The chorus, Fa la la la la, la la, la la, was sang as Nah nah nana na, No! Not with me (spit).

It was my best gift this season.
