Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

Yeah no shit. Its hard enough to convince workmates and older family that the stuff they read on facebook is bullshit. This is going to decimate any election.

No Agnes, Starmer didnt just do a speech about his love of Savile.

i imagine deepfaking the tories won't be all that useful

"here's a video of sunak saying he wants to gas the unemployed"
"i'm not surprised"
"that was actually fake"
"he definitely does though, he's a tory"

There was video of Patel visiting the Navy/Coast Guard when she was home sec and asking if they could just sink them, too. No need to fake them.

Like it fucking matters. The labour party is hardly a choice over the Tories. I've never been so appathetic about a vote

Just using him as an example.

Sorry, I am just railing against the article and the shitty state of UK politics, not you.

What could be more damning for the Tories than the evidence of 13 years of failure, that we all have lived experience of? A deep fake of Rishi saying something bad? I don’t see it.

Who cares anyway. It’s a contest between Tory and Tory (slightly)Lite. Who gives a fuck who wins, you couldn’t fit a Rizla between the gaps in their policy positions.

They weren't ready for a non ai election.

The message "were gonna tell all our allies to fuck off and then they'll have to let us do what we want" worked on them.

Kind of like the "Russian election interfearance"

If somebody pretending to be a dumbshit racist is a compelling argument to a large enough portion of your population to effect election results, that's on that society.

Frankly, at least some media control for the sake of what little democracy we have would be crucial, perhaps by an independent agency or council (at least, if we can make sure that they have some degree of neutrality, if this were a "perfect" world).

But anyway, should be interesting seeing how this problem develops... Here's hoping that it truly doesn't "decimate" any election, or at least doesn't do it to the degree that I'm thinking of.

The other problem is that the bourgeous media does a poor job of giving us the news as it is and gives misinfo/disinfo themselves...
