Do people really consider 1989 to be the beginning of the internet? That doesn't seem accurate to me.

A lot of what ends up posted here has a bias towards the 1970s' up until now simply because "we" experienced a lot of this "new" technology directly as it was released.

My first thought as well. It may seem like a pedantic "well akshually" thing, but the world wide web and the internet are not the same thing.
The birth of the world wide web , which is very foundational for a usable internet. It definitely existed before then but really took traction after this.
