On a recent post, there were a lot of comments, which said that they were missing the headphones on newer mobile devices.

How many actually use the headphone jack?

I ask, because I have one on my phone, since I really wanted one, but I rarely use it. Like Tops 1/Month.

I have a headphone jack on my phone, I still use a USBC-aux dongle because it doesn't suck.

Fwiw there are some pretty solid portable Bluetooth dacs so you don't have to have your phone port plugged all the time.

Me, at least once a week

[–] June@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve never liked or wanted a wire connecting me to my phone. It’s irritating and is a hugely negative stim for me, akin to nails on a chalkboard.

Whenever my fiio runs out of power. About once a week.

All my headphones are wired so daily. I have a dongle for an iPad I use frequently and it works fine but charging it is a drain.

I bought a phone but the jack was busted and doesn't have two bits connected in DAC. It sounds horrendous. Compressor kind of helps. I use it once per 3 months. Usually when my headphones are on low battery and I forgot to charge them.

On my next phone I will propably get an externall DAC.

P.S Playing patapon over the bluetooth is impossible. The delay is too big. Over the wire there wasn't any problem.

When my phone lost the headphone jack, I just stopped listening to music outside of my home.

I honestly prefer walks now.

I had to buy an adapter. I much prefer wired earphones, as somebody else commented, it's much easier to switch wired ones between devices. With wireless you also have the issue of disconnecting them if you want audio through the phone speaker. I hate Bluetooth anyway.

I also prefer the earphones which sit just in the ear, rather than the current style of ones that need to be forced inside. I don't think you can get wireless earphones like that, probably because they would be lost easily. I like proper headphones too (so that's an option for wireless), but they are quite bulky so not always convenient.

If I had one, I would use it for somewhere between 2:00 to 8 hours per week. Considering getting the next ZenFone largely because it has one.

Never. Bluetooth headphones and connectivity in the car.

[–] nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info 1 points 2 years ago

I have a headphone jack and have never used it

[–] digger@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

My wife does daily to plug into our car. When she recently got a phone without a jack, I bought her a dongle for charging and audio.

Does she use wired audio daily? Yes. Does her phone have a headphone jack? Well, no.

What's a headphone jack?

JK, I used to use mine a lot, when I had one. I was sad to see it go, but I've moved on. I can use the USB-C port just as easily, if I want to.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I use IEMs and wired headphones. Having a headphone jack would be game changer since I can charge and play music at the same time (I don't want to buy a 2 in 1 dongle).

[–] AdventureSpoon@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Always. Everything besides the cell tower connection happens wired. No Bluetooth or WiFi .

[–] Gazumi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Routinely with IEMs or over ear headphones as my Sony has a good DAC. If I am having a serious music listening session, I'll use a USB C dongle DAC amp.

[–] 8tomat8@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Most of the time I use Bluetooth headphones, but when I'm in the mood to listen to some good quality music, I switch to wired headphones... Probably a few times per month and only at home.

Two of my headphones are wired.

They're both usb-c.

This isn't a wired/wireless issue. You can not have a 3.5mm audio jack on your phone and still use wired headphones without an adapter because usb-c headphones exist.

You can talk about quality differences and such, but that isn't the same as wired vs wireless being the only two options.

If I still had one I would use it every day. I now use Bluetooth bone conducting headphones so I can hear other things while I listen to The Majority Report while I work.

[–] Rizoid@programming.dev 1 points 2 years ago

A few years ago I would have said every day, but I got a really good pair of Bluetooth Bose headphones that have wireless charging so I don't have to worry about anything anymore. After work they get put on a charging pad then in the morning I grab them and they're ready to go.

I have an old phone I still use for media because it has the headphone jack, it's also great to watch stuff in a room with other people in it like when a partner is watching TV or something. I bought the FairPhone 4 because I heard they (the company) made phones with it and failed my due diligence and was promptly disappointed with the lack of jack. Still my biggest gripe with this phone and still a feature I love and want back.

You can even munch on bugles and still hear your video! Its amazing!
