Poison control centers across the US say they are seeing a steep increase in calls related to semaglutide, an injected medication used for diabetes and weight loss, with some people reporting symptoms related to accidental overdoses.

Some have even needed to be hospitalized for severe nausea, vomiting and stomach pain, but their cases seem to have resolved after they were given intravenous fluids and medications to control nausea.

From January through November, the America’s Poison Centers reports nearly 3,000 calls involving semaglutide, an increase of more than 15-fold since 2019. In 94% of calls, this medication was the only substance reported.

Semaglutide was approved for weight loss in 2021. An increase of more than 15-fold from back when it was only used for type 2 diabetes (and keep in mind, it was only approved for that in 2017) is the sort of thing you'd expect from a large-scale adoption of a new medication.

Now, on a personal level, I take Wegovy. I had been very slowly titrating my dosage and one week I thought, "how much could it possibly hurt to increase my dosage a little more this week and go a bit faster?"

...well. There's a reason I have a ton of Gas-X and antiemetics now.

Weird, it's almost like if you didn't take it ss perscribed, it had side effects.

That being said every person who didn't start with slow titration got this result per their doctors instructions.
