speaking of white privilege, i did not know that chess came to Europe rather recently from South Asia (Chaturanga) originally until late this year and that there is a very distinct cousin of it (Xiangqi) played in the Far East. to my shame, i casually assumed it was a honkey invention and only learned otherwise by accident, clicking around on wikipedia. Xiangqi looks super interesting, imo.
i am in my 40s and started playing chess when i was probably 9 or 10.
