You might mean "chifforobe," a type of wardrobe, which appears a number of times in "To Kill a Mockingbird" (spelled "chiffarobe.")

Google Books can help you search, although nothing jumps out at me as being probably the thing you're looking for.
Chiffon is a style of fabric, so it could have been used in just about anything.
