I may be biased but the US flag is just ugly, same for similar flags like Liberia and Malaysia. is a really nice design imo. The hammer and sickle is classic, but some of the alternatives looks really nice like the WPK emblem , which i think would look really good on a flag. The Kiribati flag is pretty cute showing a sunrise/sunset over the ocean.

Poland, Indonesia, and Monaco all have half red and white striped flags and they're confusing as fuck.

🇦🇴 for my top pick, 🇲🇿 for my second.

East Germany's flag was chaotic but it looks pretty neat. It also looks nice hanging on my wall along with my Soviet navy flag.

Honorable mentions go to Poland, Indonesia, Monaco, and Singapore for all having basically the same flag with slightly different shades of red and being inverted. It's very confusing.

Mozambique & Zimbabwe follow basically the same design and rock. SA's right next to them.

🇬🇧 It pains me to say, but the union jack is probably the best overall flag. Iconic, easily recognizable as an icon or a flapping piece or cloth, it does the function of Flag perfectly

🇸🇨 Seychelles always stood out to me as a striking and simple design, one that stands out among a sea of flags

🇧🇷 Brazil is iconic, and a good example of when you can be loose with vexillology design principles

🇵🇷 Puerto Rico is the better version of what the US flag was trying to go for

Worst

Every Tricolor flag. Not merely boring, but also actually bad at being easily distinguished as the flag of a particular nation. A total failure to Flag.

Flags with union jacks as an element are cringe, and also difficult to distinguish from each other. Only slightly better than a tricolor.

🇧🇿 Belize just looks like a blob on blue, and is my pick for worst unique flag. Still manages to be better than the previous two categories.

good flag: Eritrea, Angola, South Yemen, nepal, zaire, Korean unity flag, UNTAC

Always liked Zimbabwe's flag, nice design and colours. Kiribati comes second, a peaceful looking flag
