This is truly great news! I recently migrated my email and calendar from Google to Proton but decided that Drive is useless for me without photo backup on mobile. Linux client with sync is also extremely important but AFAIK Proton Drive is supported by Celeste so this might be a viable workaround (though I didn't test it yet).

I also want to point out that during the short period of time when I'm using Proton Mail and Calendar, they already received a few new features. If they can keep up with this pace of development then I'm honestly fine with paying for incomplete services just to support them.

I really hope Proton will become a one stop shop for secure online services. Fingers crossed!

Finally! Drive might be useful!

Just tried it, it only backs up Camera photos. If one uses a third-party app to take pictures then Drive doesn't pick them up (on Android at least)

If you have the path set to DCIM/Camera then it works.

What if you move the photos into the DCIM/Camera folder?

[–] resonate6279@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Then it works. They just don't let you manually select the folder. Has to be DCIM/Camera

What if one has a stupid Sony phone with stupid "Photography Pro" camera app, that doesn't let you change the download path? Any tips?

Ahh 2 of us already. Wtf are proton doing?

Seriously it's android. We have loads of weird and whacky photo dirs.

Get Foldersync.

It can automatically move the files there for you, instantly, or on a schedule.

That app has been for years a lifesaver for me to put files where I want them.

Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly that app is listed to have ads and it's not open-source either, so for me personally that won't work.

However, I was recommended an app called Media Merger on F-droid, worked flawlessly for me!

Can you elaborate on "third party?" To me, that means not the system app, but a user installed one. I've used my system camera (app.grapheneos.camera) and one not originally part of my OS (user app) that I've installed from the Play Store (com.google.android.GoogleCamera) and they both backed up automatically.

Hell yeah, it's been almost a week since my last full screen ad when I check my email. I'm looking forward to this one.

I wonder if it works with FolderSync. Be neat if it did ❤️

[–] alex_herrero@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I use FolderSync to move from /Pictures/Screenshots and other to /DCIM/Camera so they autoupload. Just works so far, apparently.

[–] jelloeater85@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hmm, that's clever 😎. I dig it.

[–] alex_herrero@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

No need anymore, you can now choose which folders to sync. Awesome.

[–] alex_herrero@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

In the latest version you can select which folders to sync!

How do I set my camera to always post pictures taken in "DCIM/Camera/" ? My built in camera app saves it to a different folder name 🙃 Edit : My camera app doesn't seem to let me choose the download path, what now...

[–] gian@lemmy.grys.it 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Any way to backup the photo without using the WiFi connection ?

[–] ErKaf@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Sadly I also didn't find a way.
