It's a big and pretty good CRPG with high production values. Turns out people like those which is why it's strange this is the first one we've got since a decade ago with dragon age origins. That's the whole reason for it's popularity. People want RPGs with dialogue trees and lots of party members that have actually animated cutscenes. There's nothing else to it.

Can't watch the video atm but I'd say the biggest draw for me personally was talking with friends about what we'd done differently and speculation on what we'd not. If I had to attribute this to anything it'd be a high amount of "missable" content, as well as good writing. It also probably helps that we all know 5e well enough to discuss the actual mechanics readily.
