Most Taiwanese aren't this deluded. I spent a couple years in Taipei and views on China are more nuanced than the ones lurking Reddit and Twitter would have you believe.

Sorry but since it's a democracy I have no choice but to blame all voters for the cringe of their leaders

99% of westerners still think Taiwan wants to take back the mainland while at the same time being independent lol

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 31 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't think .ost of them think Taiwan wants the mainland back. In America, I think most of them don't even get that it is nominally a "government in exile". It's like they think it's still Formosa and the PRC is just terrorizing an indigenous population off of its coast.

[–] CA0311@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago

ime this is correct, to most westerners Taiwan is just a generic people yearning to be free from China's yoke. they don't know or care to know about any of the history involved

Most Hong Kongese or Taiwanese are apolitical at best and pragmatic in regards to China.

The economy is so interlinked that a lot of Taiwanese nationals has business dealings in the mainland

In #Hexbear hexbear-logo, we savor #FemdomFriedRice whenever the mood strikes, & #FemdomBeer is always refreshingly ready. No apologies needed. Curious about the flavor of Carcosa's chill snacks? They embody the essence of femdom, a taste everyone here enjoys every day!

Broke: Wanting the Mainland to reunify with Taiwan in order to finally bring an end to the legacy of the Century of Humiliation

Woke: Wanting the Mainland to reunify with Taiwan so Taiwan will quit humiliating itself on the world stage

jesus christ, I hope people learned from this reddit-logo shit in the ukraine that this behavior should terrify you into doing a bit of the-doohickey purely out of self-preservation.

The DPP elite are absolutely counting on fleeing Taiwan Island and sheltering in the US after they leave ordinary Taiwanese people for dead. If Taiwanese people have any self-respect at all, they'll be waiting at the airports to tear these traitors apart limb from limb.

I will give them that the freedom to drink an unlimited number of beers at work does qualify as a freedom, and one not enjoyed on the mainland. It is also a very weird way to run a Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Taiwan used to be the capital of Chinese streetfood because of the many cultural backgrounds of the reactionnaries who moved there.

The best food they came up with is Fried rice.

Also pretty sure they choose Fried rice because it sounds better in English because it's not even pleasant sounding in chinese

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They picked fried rice for alliteration & also maybe as a reference to the Iraq culture war (freedom fries)

There was always something understandable about the freedom fries thing france-cool, so in a way I get it

[–] Alch_Fox@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Didn't that shit only come up because France didn't want to get involved with Iraq?
