The 39 Steps.

Was that the one made into a movie with Robert Donat or whoever, and in one scene he sticks his finger up at the audience but there's no finger?

At least, I think that's how that part went in The Catcher in the Rye when Holden describes going to the movies with Phoebe.

It is! And it was directed by a very young Alfred Hitchcock! There are 5 novels featuring the character Richard Hannay. 39 Steps is the first, Greenmantle is the second. They were very popular in their day. 39 Steps is the only one made into a movie though?

The barber is well dressed with a tight haircut himself.

Id love this to be during the Battle of Britain, and the pilot to then say “well mate, those were some nice 10 minutes of rest, time to shoot down some bloody Germans”

Pop some Go Pills and you'll feel right as rain!

Cool boots. Can I buy those?

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

Unironically, yes. WW2 is probably the best era for finding replicas (or originals) of just about every minute detail of period uniforms.

They're first generation Nuffield Pattern Escape Boots, this gen is pretty rare to find so you'll need to keep an eye on auctions. Can find some 1943 style escape boots (zipper on the side more) as they're common.
