Apple refuses to separate sound controls. Alarms, texts, system sounds, screenshot noises, camera shutter, call ringer are all attached.

Why can’t I turn off screenshot noises without risking missed calls, wtf why is this even a connected concern??

This is something that has annoyed me since switching to iPhone for the first time, doesn’t help there’s an audio bug too where sounds become crazy loud regardless of your ringer volume

[–] T1m26@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All my devices are mute, except when i’m expecting an important call / message.

Has nothing to do with the points you’re saying

[–] LOKl31@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Using the customizable do not disturb function helps alot

[–] New-account-01@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe Apple will create this new never seen before feature and everyone will be amazed..maybe even put it behind a premium pay wall

[–] h00labal00la@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This! This bugs me so much. If I’m in the office I have to turn the ringer down but then I can’t hear any messages when they come in. It’s infuriating at best.

[–] Briebird44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes it’s silly!! My ringer volume is tied to the volume on the Facebook app. WHY?! It makes no sense.

[–] LaserRanger@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What I can't believe is that there is still no indicator on the screen when the silence switch is turned on. So I turn it on, and forget it's turned on!

[–] UnsureAssurance@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Apple thinks their consumers are 50 IQ idiots who don’t know how to use settings, it’s their way or the highway. I think they should make an advanced mode which lets you customize a lot more while keeping the current state as the default for majority of people.

[–] IIsForInglip@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have a custom ringtone that is just silence. I can still have my other system sounds and no ring.

[–] deepfriedgrapevine@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iPhone sucks Lol

[–] CT4nk3r@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That was the same for me as well on samsung, only difference was that ringtone and notifications are separate things

[–] h0sti1e17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For me it’s because it easy. It was a hassle on my android.

[–] Krradr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why I can’t control ringtone volume for AirPods specifically?

[–] Muggio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“We, at Apple, value your focus for the most important thing you love. That’s why we implemented the mute all feature. Want message notifications but want to turn off camera shutter sound? Not happening. It’s all or nothing. It’s about YOU. puts this in the new features for new iPhones as a plus

[–] monkeyofthefunk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mine is turned off because I get my notifications and calls via my watch.

[–] CaptErv@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As a recent convert from Samsung I just realized this and now I’m annoyed. I always use to have my alert notification on and phone ringer disabled, i just realized I always leave my iPhone on silent and never receive any audible alerts. I’ve noticed I respond to less texts initially on iPhone and then remember a day or two later that I never responded. Maybe not having an audible alert is causing some of that along with a horrible status/notification hub.

[–] saarlac@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They are separated. Just not clearly. You have to adjust volume for a thing while it is happening.

[–] nickaat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As a brand new iPhone user as of 3 weeks ago, this is so infuriating. It’s such a simple idea and would be so easy to implement, so why has apple not done this?

[–] jAnO76@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just disable change ringtone volume with volume buttons.

[–] WildProToGEn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I keep it off bc sounds are annoying overall, i only want my music

[–] kida182001@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One of the most annoying things about my iPhone when I was using it. After missing my morning alarm twice, I had to resort to a secondary Android phone for backup alarms.

[–] Scr4tchmyballz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is what makes no sense with iPhones…my android was so fcking easy to set up I could pick and choose what I wanted to be silent or vibrate or ring. Apple was just like fuck it we’ll remove the ringer slider altogether.

[–] not_some_username@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t know. I always put my phone on silent long before my iPhone.

[–] Live795@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve had any noise turned off for the last 19 years of owning a phone, any phone. I still to this day think it’s weird that people need their shit on full volume going off all the time.

[–] Skywise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love/hate the feature as it works about 80% of the time the right way and the other 20% of the time is infuriating.

It'd be nice if they had a volume section in settings where you could see EACH specific volume type laid out and settable. I could set my Carplay's ringtone volume for the longest time because generally people don't call me that much and the first few times they did it would blast the audio through my car at near max volume and I'd forget to set the volume down before answering so it always stayed at max volume!

OTOH, I always have my ringer turned off because I wear an apple watch and just get all my calls/notifications through vibrations on my wrist!

[–] RL_HADES@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Welp if you didn't watch the hub or ss photos in public you wouldn't need to silence.

[–] ThatGuyOnyx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just want to be able to make custom notification sounds for each app that doesn’t have a unique default one.

[–] WorldlyDay7590@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe go and look at your notifications settings…

[–] pandaSovereign@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lmao it's always fun to hear what great features iPhones have.

[–] Pettingallthepups@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Apple.com/feedback

[–] unknownuser492@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is this a genuine thing? I've always been an android user but my new work phone is an iPhone. I've spent the past month alternating between having it on silent and missing calls, or playing with the settings trying to turn off the camera shutter noise so I can have the ringtone on.

[–] 0oWow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Click the 'bell' icon in Control Center to turn on/off notification sounds while keeping the others.

[–] Boggie135@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Life is just easier that way

[–] el_lley@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because I miss BB10 notification system

[–] OuterSpaceDust@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah they should change this tbh

[–] daxtaslapp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Careful if you guys get too much freedom itll be called the Idroid

[–] kKXQdyP5pjmu5dhtmMna@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wait really? How is that still a thing?

[–] Dry-Property-639@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My phones on silent 24/7 so never notice

[–] Atosl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Every time I play music through a my google nest and start watching a video I am in pain . Oh you want to listen to the video? Pretty sure you want to turn the music up at the same time right ?

[–] Zorops@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

why would you need sound on? Psychopath that think other people around that dont matter.

[–] RedditAwesome2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like just having everything muted, I thought it was by design lol. Boomers use their phones with sound on, zoomers use muted.

[–] Life_Swimming7627@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

After 3yrs on iphone I still struggle with this.

[–] bloodshotforgetmenot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would just like to have my texts come loud, while my alarm goes off at the absolute softest

[–] TendieTrades@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No one calls or writes me so it’s a non issue.

[–] InattentionSurplus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The real silent mode

[–] mr_doppertunity@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No it’s not.

At some point we’ve been listening to the Apple tune, nobody gave a fuck about screenshot sounds, then around 10 years ago everyone went mute. And folks that force us to listen to the standard Samsung tune will burn in hell.

We’re overloaded with notifications, let us live in peace.

I only left MS Teams notifications as they’re related to my job. That’s it.

[–] threvorpaul@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because I don't want to be forced to look at my phone at any and all notifications that are popping off.
Nowadays apps force you to accept notifications by the app and make it difficult in a labyrinth in the settings, to disable it.

I also silenced everything msgs and calls. If it's rlly urgent and you're not on my white list you'll call twice (repeated calls) and it'll go through.

Messages I'll reply when I have time for it. Everyone's so anxious about having to reply immediately, me fk no.
I have "do not disturb" on 24/7 and only certain ppl white listed.

My way to fight against this perceived need to be available all the time.

[–] wasxbi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

ugh so much this. it’s been bothering me.

[–] RealityDreamer96@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I always keep sounds off for everything and phone calls on. If someone is texting me its not an emergency. If its an emergency Im not aware of, then call me. If Im expecting a text, I check my phone then more often. Additionally, I have apple watch so most notifications go through the watch anyway (sound off always)

[–] Beneficial-Studio122@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah they need to change that. Android is so much better with that. I want my alarms loud always, there’s times I missed my alarm because my ringer was too low and I forgot to turn them up before bed. Now I use both my phones for alarms just in case. My android alarm is bulletproof.
