It's the dunk tank.

This is where you come to post big-brained hot takes by chuds, libs, or even fellow leftists, and tear them to itty-bitty pieces with precision dunkstrikes.

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow hexbears.

Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances' admins or moderators.

Rule 8: The subject of a post cannot be low hanging fruit, that is comments/posts made by a private person that have low amount of upvotes/likes/views. Comments/Posts made on other instances that are accessible from hexbear are an exception to this. Posts that do not meet this requirement can be posted to !shitreactionariessay@lemmygrad.ml

Rule 9: if you post ironic rage bait im going to make a personal visit to your house to make sure you never make this mistake again

hexbear dot net was the first internet site to be antagonistic or rude

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The second one after 4chan, hence the intuitive connection between us

[–] Tofu_Lewis@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Unironically why they're trying to get "6channers" to stick lol

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't see what they think they're going to achieve with that. It just adds infamy.

[–] Tofu_Lewis@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

The spectre of hexbear haunts the lemmyverse

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

lmao they're extremely soft if they think this site is comparable to any of the chans

John Carpenter presents a "short" film of the Hexbear federation process

pretending to not understand

Socrates, famously a real toxic asshole who spent most of his time pretending to not understand

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (3 children)

This is such a terminally-online debatebro tactic too, making this accusation.

People like Jordan Peterson and his fans will refuse make clear statements because they rely upon vague allusions (and dogwhistles, of course) so they can play at motte-and-bailey tactics; if you respond to their poor attempt at making a point they'll object because it wasn't "what they meant" but the moment you ask them to be more explicit about their statements they'll treat you like you are being a troll and that you're sealioning them.

[–] Tofu_Lewis@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

Exactly. The Audit podcast's takedown of PragerU really emphasizes how factual imprecision and "fuzzy" statements are an absolutely essential and insincere tool used to preempt any counterargument with "I didn't actually say that."

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Which, again, is why you should appeal to the stick early and often.

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

cure-for-fascism it sure is appealing, isn't it?

Yesterday, I saw that with the "all governments do atrocities, actually" debate douche who refused to clarify, up or down, what that statement is supposed to imply except liberal nodding toward its vague wisdom.

Feigning to not understand, or distorting a point is something that Hexbear users love to do.

Asking me to explain my beliefs? Must be an evil tankie from website I don't like.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

wojak-nooo everyone should already know that my beliefs are "good guy" beliefs! and if you dont share them then you believe in "bad guy" beliefs!!

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It's the only time when rephrasing what someone said isn't a critical listening skill and incredibly persuasive. If you're already digging your feet into the dirt, doubling down on your own morality, every discussion feels like an attack.

"What if the homeless man is responding to systemic pressures that aren't obvious to you?"

"What if other ways of organizing society could be beneficial?"

"Have you ever considered why you value the rules so much?"

Any of these could shine a light into often unobserved assumptions. But if you entrench yourself you lose out on the chance to learn. You could very well look at it and decide that you are a stinky stinky lib, but even then you'd stop being a slave to fate because you're at least making the conscious choice to be a class traitor ~~and a moron~~.

a-little-trolling People always say to me, they always say: 'Ms. TomboyShulk, aren't you a little harsh with these pre-emptive purges?' Folks, as you can–and you can see it quite clearly–quite clearly see with this rambunctious little imp, I'm just as harsh as I need to be; could stand to be a bit harsher, frankly.

[–] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

Purges are a last resort. That means we do them pre-emptively

trump-who-must-go The tag line just got 50 characters longer, folks

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

trump-drenched Libs are calling posters banned by hexbear admins heros, I prefer posters who weren't banned. We love our admins and mods don't we folks, such beautiful and strong admins, unlike anything we've ever seen before! Not like those nasty lemmy libs, they have such bad opinions, just the worst let me tell you, they need to be banned and someone has to do it! a-little-trolling

[–] envis10n@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

My god that first image just swallows my entire phone screen lol. Thunder really doesn't like the emotes

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (2 children)

On the one hand I no longer see any value in engaging with people like this and think we should defederate outright. On the other hand I see posts like this and realize we are this close to mentally breaking them and the completionist in me wants to see it through.

[–] oregoncom@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

Don't they post on a defederated comm anyways. It's literally one guy on an instance not even federated with us.

The "(statement), no?" format is approaching "it's almost as if" levels of smug pompous Redditese and I hate it. disgost

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

I absolutely love seeing posts like this from you. Brightens my day meow-hug

[–] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

______ much? smuglord

I have absolutely hated this one since I first heard it when I was like 9 or something. I can't believe there are people who don't think they sound like an insufferable dork when they say it.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I forgot how much I hated the "____ much?" smuglord fad. I partially blame the "Cinema Sins" series and its clones for popularizing it. disgost

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm not totally with you on your recent redditese posts, but people saying that one for basically any reason makes me want to scream

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

I'm with you there. It's one of my least favorite ways of talking I can think of.

[–] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s an affectionate nickname for Hexbear. You might know that they behave like a bunch of 4channers

Ah yes. Hexbear, which automatically filters slurs, is just the same as 4chan, where the n-word is about as common as the word "the"

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

All that matters is @Civility@hexbear.net and if you lack that you're equally as bad as the nazis! Now let me civilly concern troll you about your mental health status. Who hurt you? smuglord

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hexbear users use insults. You know who else insulted people? Hitler.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago

Civilized adults in the room who make the hard decisions and get shit done don't insult people they disagree with. They just imply that those people are unwell in a way that may be construed as mental illness then mock them for that perceived weakness. smuglord

Ayy Goat@sh.itjust.works. I know you're reading this because you are obsessed with Hexbear.

When you post this to meanwhileongrad with some caption about how big meanies we are, can you get this comment in the screenshot?

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago

I'm the specter haunting the lemmyverse and frankly I'm getting tired of haunting this shit I want to go haunt something cool like a bank or Europe.
