This really just is a kind of passive and mild liberal statement that if he were actually around to say it today he would be rightfully called out for using media cop speak instead of actually naming what the Palestinians have been victims of as genocide and ethnic cleansing.
I can see very few reasons that this guy is enshrined as some sort of martyr rather than a spicy liberal who picked the easiest target in American politics to dissent on then more or less was passive or in support of every Kissingeresque action that was taken afterwards.
