Doesn’t Harbaugh like personnel control? I wonder how tf that would happen with Poles.

[–] DishonestAbraham@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

To be fair, if he could turn around this team he’d be a legend in Chicago. That may be enough motivation

How would Dianna Russini know any of this?

[–] monkeymatt1836@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because Poles told her, or Poles told someone to tell her

If something happens that acts as a “sign” to hire Harbaugh…

[–] guyincognito121@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just hope that when he fires Eberflus, Poles tells him that he just didn't execute well enough, then has a laugh at his expense and walks out of the room.

[–] DishonestAbraham@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t trust anything from the herd but if we can bring a proven winner to chicago I’m all for it

[–] HopLegion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm sure Poles has had conversations or keeps a list of all the top coaching candidates in case he fires Flus. Pretty sure this is something every GM in the league does if their coach has won 7 games in 2 years.

This just feels weird. Obviously there would only be a few people who would provide this information, and it kind of feels like Poles put this out there to distance himself from Eberflus.

I still like that also.

Then fire Eberflus today and start courting Harbaugh now.

[–] zachj3488@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We can’t cause Eberflus’ feelings might be hurt 😞

[–] GoldGlove2720@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Who would coach then? We have no DC. We would lose our DC and HC. And to be honest the defense has been great recently minus the last 4 minutes of the lions game. He’s here to the end of the season unfortunately.

[–] make2020hindsight@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“Hurr just let Fields call the plays to show us what he’s capable of doing or else he’s a trash QB and we need to go all-in on some college QB!”

/s

You make a wonderful point though that flus is our DC and HC both. I’d love to see him hit the pavement midseason but he wears too many hats.

[–] FaithfulBarnabas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Promote LB coach to be new DC. Make Special teams coach new HC

[–] The_Dok@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah Christ people are like “b…b… but we don’t have a DC?!”

You promote people for the interim. The team isn’t going anywhere with Eberflus anyway, so see if ANY of the guys still on staff can get some better production from the team.

[–] freemcgee69420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Ask Madden could give us better results right now

[–] itsmb12@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At least Ask Madden wouldnt call 30 screens a game

[–] OpneFall@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So you think all a DC does is call plays on game day?

IF this is true, Eberflus is done. His goose is cooked if they're thinking about who they want to replace him with already.

[–] Kawabunga90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Let's not complicate this.

Harbaugh -> Caleb Williams -> MHJ

Boom. Rebuild complete.

[–] itsmb12@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Testone1440@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dude. Fields sucks and won’t be on this roster come 2024 week 1

[–] comonbuddy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

MHJ probably won't be there at our pick, it's one of the linemen or Nabers.

[–] Accomplished-Bear357@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We could get MH jr with our 1st pick from Carolina.

This justifies a shot of Malort

[–] lordkemo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I did that face you get when taking a shot of Malort just reading this.

Going the conservative route repeatedly (Fox, Nagy, and Poles) has done nothing but bring losses. What’s the downside in making a splash like this? Honestly.

[–] zachj3488@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Please please please please please

[–] lobster_liberator@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This definitely helps our chances of landing Jim Harbaugh.

[–] Wildest83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Iffybiz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Before everyone gets too excited, the Bears would be idiots if they weren’t talking about the possibility of firing Eberflus and hiring another coach. Poles and Warren aren’t idiots.

At this point, they will be starting to put together a list of potential coaches and Jim Harbaugh will be on it. That’s probably about as far as they’ve gotten, so throwing his name out there means less than nothing. It doesn’t mean JH is coming and it doesn’t mean he’s not coming. So relax and let it play out, you people will end up with strokes.

[–] Accomplished-Bear357@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably 1st on the list.

[–] FaithfulBarnabas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Guys after researching we aren’t getting him. Cause Bears are too cheap, they alway cheap out on coaches. Eberflus is making 4.5 million per year which ranks amongst the lowest in the league. When we fired Nagy, logic would dictate finding a great OC who excels at playcalling as next HC. Instead we got a mediocre DC who runs a vanilla cover 2 mostly. Why $$$ Harbaugh would cost $12+ million per year. Bears will never pay that. This is also why they likely even keep Eberflus and why they always keep coaches around well after expiration date, cause even those cheap salaries they don’t want to lose. They are penny pinchers. It isn’t class or any noble virtue. Scrooge has nothing on them

Sources say my fandom of the team will no longer exist if the Chicago Bears keep Matt Eberflus for next year

This should be a non story. If the Bears had not had that conversation yet it would be malfeasance for malfeasances sake. They should be having conversations about replacing coaches and players every day, even if we were good.

[–] Haysen18@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wish we would’ve just brought him in two years ago instead of eberflus, the keep fields/draft QB decision would’ve easily been made this year.

Whatever head coach we do end up getting, hopefully an offensive minded coach like Harbaugh or Ben Johnson, should have some input in the decision although I’m sure Poles will make the final call.

[–] MJSB1994@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My only concern with Jim, is the possibility of the game passing on his style. It's been a while since he left the 49ers for Michigan. Can anyone tell why I might be wrong or what I've missed out.

[–] DubsLA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As a Michigan fan, I wouldn’t be too concerned. He’s been really good the last few years at recognizing any deficiencies and acting accordingly. Don Brown was a good DC, but stubbornly stuck to a system that was ill-equipped to battle a modern passing offense when the talent level was equal. So he went out and got Mike MacDonald (now the Ravens DC) and Jesse Minter (current DC) who’ve implemented more pro-style scheme.

On offense, he still likes to run the ball, but I don’t see him doing that in the NFL. I’d be extremely sad if he Harbaugh bailed on Michigan, but if he did join the Bears, I could actually see him pulling for his current QB, JJ McCarthy instead of using a pick on Williams or Maye. Him and JJ seem to have a vibe and in my extremely biased opinion, I think JJ is the best pro QB prospect.

[–] Accomplished-Bear357@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

JJ is definitely good. And if we get MH jr as well.......

[–] doppellyne1992@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would be more concerned if they weren't having conversations about these kind of things. They are scouting a new head coach as they should be. It is a large part of their jobs. The only way it really becomes a decision about moving on from Flus is if he wins at least 4 of the last 5. That's when the decision-making becomes interesting.

[–] Subby13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

With how well the defense is playing under his direct playcalling, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just aim to get a better OC.

[–] Accomplished-Bear357@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That is good news.
