I’m curious - why do you pick iPhone compared to other smartphone brands? (Google Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus, etc.)

(I’m also going to be asking in other phone subs, hope this survey goes well)

cuz that’s what everyone else has, but I personally realized that iOS is too boring for me and now I would like to explore android

[–] Chapman8tor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well, it sure isn't for Siri!

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and a Samsung Galaxy S23 (not the Ultra model). I switch between them almost weekly. Both have their plusses and minuses. For me, the iPhone takes better, more natural looking pictures and records video without the first half second jitter the S23 often suffers from.

I prefer Apple Maps' visuals and voice over Google Maps, but Google Maps has more accurate directions and tons more reviews and user photos (since Apple continues to rely on Yelp!). Apple tends to stick with an idea or an application for the long term, perfecting it along the way. Google branches out in all directions and sometimes loses sight of what its customers want. Choosing an iPhone means you get continued support and predictability for several years. Choosing an Android phone means you get bleeding edge tech, apps and experiences that may or may not be available in the future.

Because it’s the phone that I have so it’s the phone that I use.

[–] Beelazyy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I switched to iPhone years ago because I was sick of getting “left behind” on software updates. My Android devices never received any updates. Either my carrier, nor the device manufacturer, could tell me who was responsible for sending updates to my device. My iPhone(s) have been consistently reliable and that’s something I can’t say for my android devices.

I was into Linux a lot and once I got a good rice on my system I decided I wanted to do something harder making a hackintosh when I did I was able to see how well put together the operating system was. I then bought an iPhone SE for 50 dollars and it outperformed my current Motorola while also being a year older. After that I decided to get higher tier apple products and it’s been a dream since. Its funny because people typically view me as someone who would use Linux android or windows but I have apple everything

[–] be_bo_i_am_robot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It just works.

I’m older now, and busy.

When I was younger, I fiddled with all the tech things, and spent many fun hours doing so. For example, I was into Linux way before Linux was cool, re-building streamlined kernels, tweaking my XF86Config parameters to squeeze the most juice out of my Trinitron CRT, piddling with my modem’s AT commands, fooling around with my sound card’s settings, tweaking my Enlightenment desktop to look as hacker and badass as possible, all that stuff.

A decade (or whatever) later, when Android came out, I did a similar thing with it (but maybe scaled back a bit). Customized and tweaked all the things I could.

These days, though, I just want something that works. Technology isn’t a toy for me anymore, but a tool.

With Apple, I get a rock-solid Unix desktop that just works, paired with mobile devices that just work. I happily pay for the premium, even though I don’t always love Apple’s decisions. Nothing’s perfect, but the Apple ecosystem is good enough and works well.

[–] bignattyd4ddy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s aesthetically more pleasing and it works without any issues. Been using iPhones since the iPhone 4 and never looked back.

[–] DrPiipocOo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

because it’s my mom’s old phone, but i don’t really like apple

[–] moiziz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Used Samsung for years. Would upgrade every couple years because phone wouldn’t work as good anymore. So I traded for an iPhone as a test. Used same phone for 4 years without issue and just upgraded only because I wanted the newer cameras.

[–] Littlelindsey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My mum finds them easier to use and so do I.

[–] KeyResponsibility167@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Easy to use.

[–] Mmzstyles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Never lags Never disappoints Fast But shit battery iPhone 13 user btw

[–] Ok-Narwhal-6422@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well for me I simply was just raised with iPhones, like my first phone was an iPhone 4, then 6,11,13 and now 14 pro. I would’ve stayed with my 13 if I was the owner of it but because of family issues I guess it was never truly mine but I just got my 14 pro after trying the Motorola razer +! I loved the phone but the battery drained fast, and it was a phone I had to be extra gentle with. Not to mention there were a few times the phone would restart itself! But besides that I’m going into a physical job and a tougher part of my life as I’m going to bootcamp and just want something simple! ( plus I already have the ecosystem MacBook and Apple Watch and apple connects easy with my Beats Pro.

[–] 7777zahar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Pretty much just for the iMessage

[–] bakedEngineer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because women will not date me for having an Android.

Sounds fucking stupid, right?

Well, it’s real and it’s happening, baby.

[–] Ranch_it_up_bro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just got locked into the ecosystem plus I love the pink color on the 15

[–] someexgoogler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I won't. My wife switched because apple made the last small phone. She despises it.

[–] TroiCheeseHigh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because I had a bad experience with android phones after they became a few years old. Either they did not get updates or they started lagging. Maybe even both. Also I loved the built quality of the iPhone 7 (silver) very much, my first one. So I’m sticking with iPhone. I had 7, 12 mini, 14 pro max. (Pro max because I wanted a bigger battery and I started to work so I could afford to spend a little more money).

[–] Illustrator-Foreign@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because my girlfriend made me get one

[–] Subjective_Box@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Short version: because I don't want to think about my phone/devices. It's not that important, only that it shouldn't irritate me. give me the feel-good stuff, not the biggest dick contest.

Longer version: it probably started with excitement that 1st iPhone was. that's how mac products entered my awareness and as a result I got a Mac when I needed a new computer. It was a relatively quick learning curve, after that I still had another windows laptop, but 2011+ switched back to mac (my air was with me for 10 years until I upgraded) and only needed to use windows for work.

It's not an accident that I mention windows at all - it all came to hardware. I'm finicky and just need things feel nice. won't touch user experience with andriod as I had little, but always frustrating. So basically - I want hardware to feel nice and software as predictable and user centred as possible. If iPhones truly do something disappointing - I might switch, but until then - I only ever have to think about it when I physically destroy my phone and need it replaced. I target for ever 5 yrs, but usually 2-4 just based on the repair/replace balance

[–] ThatVerdant@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Eco system, but my parents have used Apple products since I was born, which was 2004, so I’ve been Team iPhone

[–] _alexxeptia_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As for me, iPhones are the type of devices that won't start annoying you after 1.5-2 years of usage and you can easily use them for like 3-4 years even the previous 1-2 generations and they'll still work as fast and smooth

[–] doghouse2001@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I see all other phone brands as second rate. Even IF they have a 42MP camera. They're still ugly.

[–] deathclient@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Got good promotions from my carrier and then been getting free upgrades (except tax) every year so why not.

[–] LegoPirateShip@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Loopdyloop2098@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My mom, that's why.

[–] gorcbor19@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had Android and it was so glitchy. iPhones aren’t perfect but are pretty close to glitch free.

[–] Visible_Interview134@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Only because the only androids my dad would get me were the cheap 200 dollar ones so i bought a iphone 11 with a slightly bent screen for 150 all the screen does is ghost easily

[–] mcdonaldsfrenchfri@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I started with samsungs until I was about 16 and was really wanting an iphone because I just hated how messy samsung looked, nothing was ever seamless, organized, aesthetic or simple. I appreciate apples simplicity, their attention to aesthetics and details… EVERYTHING. my first iphone was the X.

android people can argue about how many megapixels their camera has but then why are my iphone pictures always better?? their phones have better specs but how is it always still bad? don’t talk to me with your uncanny valley looking selfies

[–] Chicken-LoverYT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My first phone (6s) was given to me by my parents. I probably would’ve gotten the latest Samsung back then since I had a galaxy tab 4. I ended up using a lot of the Apple features and slowly became drawn into the ecosystem. I’ll most likely stick with the iPhone until they stop caring about user privacy or if there’s a severe lack of product innovation.

[–] ChiefBroady@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There was no android when I started with iPhone. And since then I haven’t seen a reason to switch.

[–] Additional-Log4501@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I use both an Iphone and Oneplus. The front cameras on the iPhone are much better and smoother than the oneplus. Facetimes and video calls are smoother. I do prefer Adnroid's 120hz fluidness over iphones. Sometimes it feels like I do not have promotion turned on.

So cameras and Facetime is why I use my iPhone as a primary device.

[–] ari_wonders@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I feel the same. Fluidness on Android phones is incredibly faster and more responsive than on iPhones.

[–] forkworm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because pixel support went downhill incredibly fast. Especially on an 800+ phone, it was straight up unacceptable.

[–] CKA757@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The stability of the US. How easily everything works together with each other. The cameras.

[–] ari_wonders@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I think phone for phone, the iPhone doesn’t have anything that stands out from the competition really. What makes it different is iOS and the ecosystem that locks everything together and works better than the Android/Windows counterpart.

Alot of these seamless integration features are also on the Galaxy tablets / Laptops / Phones. I have a Tab s8 Ultra and an S23 Ultra. I use Dex mode with a 6 in 1 Stand that has a Mouse and keyboard connected to it, I moved my mouse to the edge of the screen and it went over onto my phone even though it's not connected to my phone it's wired onto my Tablet. That along with the copy on phone and paste on the tablet and start right at the internet page you were just on the phone, for galaxy instead of Airdrop it's called quick share etc... there's alot they have the same features and I would argue Galaxy has even more

[–] lord_frost_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Always had androids. I have the Pixel 6 now but the battery life is poor and I prefer smaller. Had a 4a earlier but lost it to a swimming pool. This Black Friday, I got the iPhone 15 thinking I'll try the walled garden. But still have cold feet so haven't transferred everything over yet. Using it as a second phone without a SIM. But I'm already a bit annoyed with stuff like no folders for photos, single volume slider, Siri, lack of customization, keyboard, etc. Plus I use Google Assistant a lot.
Not sure if I wanna totally commit or just stick with my Pixel and return the iPhone.

I’ve had pixels, I’ve had iPhones, I’ve had Samsung phones from the s8 to the fold and flip and my least favorite by far is Samsung for many reasons but the biggest being the internal storage space it takes up out of the box (it’s like 85gb lol)

I’ve gone back and forth between iPhone and pixel a couple of times and there’s things I like about both which makes it hard to pick one but currently using an iPhone 15 and still have my google pixel 7 pro in a drawer at my house

The interface is a huge thing on iPhone for me as well as the battery life surprisingly and also just the ease of connecting with others cause so many people tend to have iPhones more than any other phone

I used to like pixel better due to customization of messages and stuff but android got rid of their ability to change all of that much (aside from a color theme) and iPhone has become more customize friendly with their lock screens and widgets etc

iPhone just seems to feel better in my hand as well which is a wild reason but it’s true, also case options. Any brand case you could want they always have apple cases but some brands don’t carry many cases or cases at all for the pixel and some other phones, a good example is wildflower which only sells their cases for iPhone and another brand is loopy, you have a lot more options for case style/color with iPhone because to everyone iPhone is superior and I feel like it’s always gonna be 🫠

Because of Apple's standardised after sales services and warranty coverage. Samsung refused to fix my ZFlip's faulty battery, I was told that my Southeast Asia warranty was not recognised in Europe. Mind you my device was less than a year old at that point. As an international student in the UK with finals coming up, the unnecessary stress was not appreciated. I went online and ordered my first ever iPhone. If it's not for me? Return it within 15 days. Broken? Mail it to Apple or walk into an AppleStore with a Genius appointment. Moving back to my home country? AppleCare is recognised internationally. The AppleTax is worth it if it meant less stress and one less thing to worry about when I'm alone in a foreign country as a student

[–] Rileymk96@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iPhones just work. Like, all the time. It’s so damn smooth.

[–] Disastrous_Ad3904@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

App consistency. Im fed up with androids laggy/crappy experience. From galaxy S to S21 series. Nah im out

[–] EllenRHudson@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No real reasoning behind it for me. I got a smartphone much later than my friends. My two closest friends used iPhones. The brand was the best known. I never really thought about starting out with anything else. And now it’s just what I use. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–] SeveralPresent1064@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To find shione cooper

[–] Ann1h1lator@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My wife and child use it - the ecosystem for families is pretty great.

Otherwise I’m a Pixel guy.
