I’m curious - why do you pick iPhone compared to other smartphone brands? (Google Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus, etc.)

(I’m also going to be asking in other phone subs, hope this survey goes well)

I got used to it ever since I was a kid. My iPhones are all hand me downs from my parents (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus). My parents bought me an iPhone 11 and now, I bought the 15 Pro Max.

I’m not the type of person that prioritizes customizability and I just prefer a simpler way of using the phone. And I won’t lie, I prefer Apple also because of its prestige. Although I am not a tech snob as I plan on owning a flagship android should I make more money to have the best of both worlds.

But for now, I love my new iPhone.

my sister switched, then my mom, then me. I wanted to try it since I've used nothing but Samsung. I've had my iphone 12 since 2021. I like it a lot, but I still have my note 10 phone and I am never getting rid of it, there's just too much freedom on there.

company standard and my girlfriend is super ignorant with computers and it‘s the easiest thing for my parents who are both way older than 80. I actually like android more.

In the past I’ve tended to switch back and forth between iOS and Android. Was on the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Pixel 2, while having a couple iPads and Macs. I also would periodically try Android phones for a couple months at a time (was able to borrow them from work), so I’ve used literally dozens, if not a hundred different Android phones.

For a long time there were enormous advantages to Android. Bigger screens, widgets, background tasks for third party apps, file system access, better sharing, better notifications, better voice assistant… at the cost of a usually jankier UI, generally worse battery life, and poorer implementations of apps in the store.

Apple significantly closed the gap in recent years, and the iPhone is mostly caught up, or at least close enough for former android advantages to be almost non-issues for general usage.

I went to an iPhone 12 Pro when it came out since it felt like time to try the iPhone again, and hated the phone. Battery life was awful, 60hz sucked (since I was used to more), the phone would heat up during normal use…

Was going to go back to Android, but family members were having huge issues with recent Android devices, and the iPhone 14 Pro seemed like it might resolve most of those issues, and it did. Picked up a 14 Pro Max, and it’s the second phone I’ve ever owned that I really love (the other being the Pixel 2).

Great screen, great battery life, (mostly) stable (apart from “dynamic island” and keyboard bugs), great camera… The only real stuff I’m really missing from Android now are app side loading, a fully-fledged file system, USB-C with fast file transfer speeds (yes, I know, iPhone 15 Pro…), the better keyboards you get on Android, the better assistant… but it’s a worthy trade off for now for a more cohesive ecosystem, improved apps, etc.

Hopefully it won’t break and I can go without upgrading for at least 3 years.

My gf forced me and now I cannot go out

  1. Invested in the ecosystem (Macbook, iPad, watch, airpods)
  2. Seamless integration between devices is hella convenient (copy pasting from phone to mac, search history, etc)
  3. Airdrop is hella convenient when getting photos from fell iPhone users on trips
  4. Photos look better on the iPhone. You can argue that other companies have better photos in certain lighting conditions, sure… but iPhone just delivers consistently
  5. Might be the stupidest answer but I like the variety of cases they release for iPhone… and that’s a personal preference for me.

Only one reason - Apple Watch

Also, being a reliable OS helps, although I enjoy using the much more flexible Android

[–] Kranon7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wanted to try something new, and wound up loving it.

[–] berfito@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To take pics of my little children

[–] liberalindianguy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I use iPhone because , imo, the UI feels way more polished than Android. Whenever and wherever I pickup an Android phone, no matter which one, the whole UI just feels cartoonish and amateurish. I just can’t stand it.

All that customization in the UI that Android fans love to talk about just makes it even more inconsistent and amateurish.

This is all just my view.

Apple Ecosystem and Choosing to limit the quantity of my personal information I share with Google. I like Android, but care little for the idea of giving one company my entire digital life. I am NOT claiming Apple is perfect but I find myself less frustrated using their products.

[–] folgersinstantcoffee@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I use an iPhone because everything works pretty well, when I get a new phone everything transfers seamlessly, and I’ve never had a reason not to use an iPhone.

Also, iMessage is huge in my family. Group chats and FaceTime are essential for staying connected with them. My dad has an android and is consistently using my moms iPhone to stay in the loop with photos, videos, etc sent from the rest of the family.

[–] batuckan1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why chose Milwaukee over dewalt or ryobi or harbor freight?

[–] smanears@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It...looks cute.

[–] LokiKamiSama@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At first it was because it was the carrier wars. Cingular/att didn’t have Motorola smart phones. Took a gamble with the iPhone 4. Liked the iOS. It works how I think it should work (even though sometimes iTunes is a pain in my ass). Once got a tablet with android iOS and it was clunky and hard to use. Why wouldn’t I want the icon for the app I just downloaded on the main screen? Why do I have to navigate for several minutes to find where to stop the app. Yes I want to delete the icon on the screen after I delete the app, why would I want to keep that? Little things. But I like PC’s better than Mac’s. Why? Because Mac’s are overprice and under powered. Also I hate the software interface is. Why should I have to “throw away” the disk icon in order to eject the diskette? That seems stupid. Just have an eject button.

[–] Jolly-Ambassador6763@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Longevity. It’s guaranteed that their phones will be supported long after most have already replaced it. I can’t count how many non iOS phones just stopped being supported before the 2 year mark.

[–] redundant35@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I used android phones for years. I left an iPhone 4 because I wanted the freedom android offered. I tweaked and did this and that to my phones. Now I just want a phone. I want to call, text, occasionally FaceTime, stream..etc. nothing out of the ordinary.

iPhones just work and do everything they need to. I don’t need custom notifications and whatever else. Just a phone.

After my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic I got my first real smartphone, which was an iPhone 4S. I wasn’t really fan of Apple, even used to shit on iPhones, just because they were expensive and I never owned one. After getting it, I was amazed, especially by the screen. My first ever proper touch screen. After some time I decided to give Android a chance and bought Samsung Galaxy S4. Had the worst smartphone experience of my life, which ended on Samsung’s battery becoming an explosive pillow. Android back then was also a terrible experience. To Samsung’s credit, they replaced almost whole phone on warranty. They left only the back of it from old one, just because it was scratched from swollen battery. Sold it right after getting it back from warranty. Bought iPhone 5S to have proper smartphone back, then shortly after got my 6S that served me well for 3,5 years.

Not gonna lie, that whole Android experience left such bitter taste that I never looked at Android phones again. I got a lot more into tech world since then and now, if I wasn’t invested in Apple ecosystem, I’d consider getting Pixel. Tbh I’m considering getting one anyway just to see how it is nowadays.

[–] fsociety1990@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just really hate Android and Google. I use iPhone only because it is better than Android but I would really love a 3rd option.

[–] SmartBar88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Me=tech wonk (Android) Spouse and friends and family=Luddites (Apple)

Me sick of not being able easily answer questions or help w problems for spouse switches to Apple=everyone happy. High end phones work just fine; some quirks, advantages, and disadvantages. Grateful to be able to afford them. Life goes on.

[–] izeezusizeezus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Social medias are optimized for it, and it's a big part of my income so I gotta be on top of it

[–] Nelyahin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I switched so I could FaceTime with family. I was an android user. I can say the way Apple has made it easy to update phones and have everything automatically load is really nice. It used to take me hours to set up my android. It’s only ac handful of minutes with Apple.

[–] kissmyscars@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just like the others because of camera and i like how smooth it is when i’m using it there’s something about ios that android dont have, but still i dont like the battery

[–] Yomat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I flipped between iPhones and various Androids for 10 years. I happened to be on an iPhone in 2020 and realized all phones are now good enough and basically the same black glass slab. So I’ve stuck with iPhone just out of convenience and laziness since then. Probably get the 16 when it comes out, unless an Android manufacturer gives new a reason to switch.

[–] inno7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Used an iPod and then iPhone. Both were intuitive. I also own other Apple devices and I really like the Mac. I have used windows and android devices - both were relatively hard to use / cluttered / buggy in my experience.

[–] _Venus94@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

After 12 years Android I want to some changes.

[–] Xhadov7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because I want the latest and the greatest software while having the phone for 5+years

[–] BluesTime@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iMessage/blue bubble. also got airpods prior to this

[–] Empty-Swing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I got the 15pm as my first iPhone but I am missing Android, especially Pixel just for the live call screen, AI photo editing features, the notification system, the pictures they take are miles better than the camera on this phone. I'll likely sell this and get a Pixel 8 Pro.

[–] TellMePeople@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just because i got a macbook and airpods and apple tv and ipad

[–] bigdogxxl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wanted an Apple Watch and AirDrop with my Mac is handy.

[–] Felix-Leiter1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m deep in the Apple ecosystem but have recently been eyeing the Pixel 8. I’m really bored of iOS despite having this 15 pro max.

[–] MJDog44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was Blackberry diehard. Then Android. Never wanted to pay the premium for Apple. I had a friend who was Apple who always said, “everything works so well together…and everything works.”

That is where I am now. I had a Samsung phone and tablet - I always have the top of the line. They worked ok together.

With Apple, my watch, phone and tablet work flawlessly together. Air Pods too. If I need to connect to a Bluetooth appliance or something it works. Every time.

Android always seemed to have hiccups. Companies make sure their products work well with Apple and they always do.

And everything is built to work with Apple. There are zillions of apps and screen protectors and chargers made to work with Apple stuff.

I will never go back.

[–] ichglaub_ichspinne@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The company I work for will not pay for my phone allowance unless I use an iPhone. Idk why lol.

[–] EveInGardenia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve used both and Apple is easier to use imo.

[–] mapar988@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Had a Galaxy S3 and S5. Before my 2 years with both of them were over, they started running slower and more glitchy and for some reason I just couldn't seem to clear their memory no matter what I tried. Went back to iPhone with the 7 and haven't looked back since. It's been great having everything work together between the Mac, watch, apple tv and phones.

[–] ContributionOwn220@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Cheaper, better software, better camera, more fun to repair

[–] YossiTheWizard@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My smartphone journey.

BlackBerry Storm2 iPhone 4 galaxy S4 Smattering of Androids, including more Samsung, an HTC, and an LG at the end before going back to Apple.

Why the android run? I’ve had computers since I was a kid that ran DOS. If my phone is slightly less user friendly, I can deal with it, and paying more for storage always soured me. I can get a microSD for $50 where the same amount of storage would run $150 on an iPhone (and that was a while ago, the price of SD cards came down hard).

It also made it convenient to get a new phone and move all of my stuff my transferring a small piece of plastic instead of using a service to do it.

My last android was the LG, and I 100%would have bought another if they still made phones, but they don’t. Dedicated sound chip that enables when I connect studio headphones? Count me in. It sounded great, and I compared my current iPhone 13 and my spare Samsung S5 I still have.

But I found I rarely need to move files from computer to phone anymore, and the base storage on an iPhone is enough now. The lack of a headphone jack was a turnoff, but my wireless earbuds are great (Sony something). Samsung is trying so hard to be an iPhone I didn’t want another one of those, so I just naturally went for the iPhone again. The autocorrect is still a bit too overzealous, but the interface is brilliant, and I don’t regret it. I don’t have any other Apple products and I’m happy with my choice.

[–] Dragon1562@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I use iPhone because it’s supported pretty much any carrier without question. It also has support for dual sim which is a feature that I need since I have multiple phone lines. Went from needing to carry 2 phones down to 1 phone in my pocket thanks to that feature.

Having iMessage back is also nice but it was really the carrier support aspect and dual sim

[–] Legodude522@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iPhones are compatible with my Bluetooth hearing aids but only certain Android phones are.

[–] tahcamen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had the original Droid, the Maxx, HTC One, and a couple others before going iPhone. Every Android phone I mentioned would need factory reset every few months because they would bog down so badly. Add to that the fact they never seemed to have the latest updates (or more than one or two updates total) and the apps and store were really bad (I’ve been iPhone for 10 years now so they’ve hopefully gotten better). I’ve just found iPhone to be a much more solid platform that runs and looks good throughout its product life.

[–] Truenick@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Don’t like Android system. Blackberry OS was my love

[–] BestZeena@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like how it looks and the small details make a difference

[–] Last-Resource-99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because there is no better. And don't get me wrong, it is NOT because it is good, it's just phone market is pathetic and there is no choice.

[–] fuccthepatriarchy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It’s comfortable. I’m growing to hate iPhones with every new release but I don’t feel like learning a new phone or having green texts

Because it just works out of the Box.

[–] PalowPower@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm using one because I'm already in the ecosystem. I have AirPods, an iPad and my iPhone. My whole Family uses iPhones so I'm just going with the flow. I don't mind. If i didn't have my iPad, I would probably get a Google Pixel. I like the design and software.

[–] deathclient@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Got good promotions from my carrier and then been getting free upgrades (except tax) every year so why not.
