I’m curious - why do you pick iPhone compared to other smartphone brands? (Google Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus, etc.)

(I’m also going to be asking in other phone subs, hope this survey goes well)

iPhones just operate the way I want a smartphone to operate, iMessage and, I have rarely had any issues out of iOS. I’m also invested into the Apple ecosystem; MacBook, AirPods, watch, AppleTV with AppleTV subscription, and have most of my digital movies and music through Apple as well plus Apple Music subscription.

It's simple to use and I also have more Apple devices and they all work together in harmony.

A few years back when I had my S9 I was working in a worksite on christmas day, had to make a call and found my phone had died, out of battery despite not using it most the day (it was about -3°c all day), got back to my van, plugged it in, and it said 80%, Got an iPhone because everyone else had one at work, and needed something more reliable, a lot of the calls I need to make are safety critical

Those other phones weren’t out when I started with iPhone (came from BlackBerry). Plus being in the Apple ecosystem makes everything nice and convenient.

software support

[–] nanapancakethusiast@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Got one in 2010 and liked it

[–] zikronix@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because it doesn’t have components pressing against the oled screen causing bumps like the pixel does

[–] SharkDad20@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like the consistency in the OS, the higher quality apps (not sure how it compares lately, i switched years ago), and my and my wife’s family are all on iPhone so iMessage is great. Apple Arcade is awesome, too!

It’s reliable. Never had any major problems with it. Unlike Samsung, my last Samsung phone which was Note 20 Ultra had green & pink lines in less than a year. Maybe 6 months of use

Had a lot of bad experiences with old android devices. I’ve never been against android just prefer the clean design of iPhone. Even though I’m a hardcore windows user

[–] _HipStorian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like it and it works for me. Till that changes, I don’t see myself switching. A lot of android devices are cutting edge and cool though. Maybe I’ll get one as a spare phone in the future, but for now, I just use an iPhone and Apple ecosystem

[–] v3zkcrax@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To try something different, used nothing but Android Phones since the Moto Droid. I will be returning back to using Android after this iPhone run.

[–] -Azona-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because android sucks in my opinion.

[–] Zordekaiser@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly, I like it cause it just works. Every android I had before my first iphone (the iphone x) was just unreliable

[–] ATXthedude@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

From college to my line of work I’ve only ever used Apple products and it was just seamless for me to choose the iPhone.

[–] Possible-Address-505@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

iMessage. That’s about it 🤷‍♂️

[–] dirkwynn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wanted an iPod in high school , never got one but when the iPhone came out , I was thinking “ that’s a phone and iPod in one that’s saving me money “ bought a iPhone 4 in 2010 , stuck to it ever since

[–] Sudden-Cardiologist5@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

FaceTime, have a new grand kid. Main reason I switched. Otherwise there are things I like but also things I miss.

[–] KirklandButter@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

(Former Android User)

I switched to iPhone for various reasons.

Security (e2e, passkey, private relay) It’s feels like quality. The App optimization is S tier. The ecosystem.

[–] lovefist1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A few reasons:

It provides a quality out of the box experience.

Lack of bloat (back when I bought my phone through my carrier, Apple was the only one to say fuck you we’re not installing your garbage carrier apps, which I appreciated).

It’s popular, so most things out there in the “real world” (here in the US) are designed to accommodate it. This includes accessories.

Good hardware resulting in reliable, consistent performance.

I prefer Mac to Windows, so the integration is convenient (though it’s not really something I’d seek out).

Apple stores are available for support. Shipping off my phone for repair or something doesn’t appeal to me.

Apple Watch is nice.

Google’s Pixel line accomplishes a lot of this too, aside from the things that depend on popularity, so I like Pixels too.

In the beginning when i got my iphone 4 it was a no brainer it had my ipod + a phone in one device i was sold. Now? My spouse uses iPhone, my kids. So it's just easier ? I guess. Plus airpods, watch & a ipad so ima little invested i guess?

[–] Klhoe318@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The software is very satisfying and simple to use

[–] HeisenbergShed@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s the most no-BS phone out there.

[–] phenicx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I use an iPhone because of Apple ID. I log in and all of my stuff is there. I don’t use macs I’d Apple Watch or AirPods. I use out side brands for that stuff but all of my data is on iPhone and transferring to an android doesn’t work too well. As an operating system android is fine. For some people it’s better. But I’ve used both and my Apple ID is what brought me back to iPhone

[–] Neuromancer2112@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I started on the iPhone 3G. And while I've never owned an Android as a daily driver, I've certainly had to use them or support staff or customers at work who needed assistance doing something on them.

To me, iPhones are just about as easy as you'll find, yet still have a lot of capability.

Sure, modding the phone back in the day with Jailbreaking was cool and fun to do, but the iPhone kept adding features that I was getting through JB, so it just was no longer worth the hassle of not only going through the process, but then also not being able to update the phone with security fixes.

I like the quality of the build, the fact that the phone basically doesn't crash (I remember back in the 4 days, trying to run tons of apps at the same time, and the phone just wouldn't slow down enough to be noticeable), and of course the ecosystem is great - I got the iPad the year it came out, and only last year did I finally decide to get the Apple Watch, and that's been great for tracking my health in general, as well as being useful at work.

It all started for me with the iPod touch when I was in middle/high school. I was absolutely in love with that thing. My parents would not allow me to have a smartphone so that was the next best thing that I could have.

When iOS 5 came out and iMessage and FaceTime were a thing, I thought it was so cool that I could text and call my friends on my iPod!

A bit later when I got a job, my first smartphone was a Windows phone. While I did enjoy it, I eventually ended up missing the UI of iOS. Every phone after that was an iPhone and I haven’t looked back since. I am fully invested in the ecosystem and it’s been nothing short of great.

Tl;dr - it started with my love for the iPod touch.

[–] Greedy-Toe-4832@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just want every android user to know that I’m better than them .

[–] Luna259@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One dead Android and one Android not working great plus already having a MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro. Needed something that just works and lives a long time. Plus the integration was a plus

[–] Mikael_blomkvist_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No matter how old is your iphone, you won’t get bored , it still feels like a precious piece of art, but any android flagship will look like trash after 5-6 months. It’s a bonding between the user and the apple devices.

[–] ilikewolves99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I had Android devices from 2011-2017 with some iOS devices I used along side (iPod, iPhone) and around November 2017, I wanted to see what owning an iPhone was like. I haven’t looked back since. It also helps that almost everyone I know has an iPhone for iMessage and Apple Pay. Apps are the iPhone also feel better made to me.

[–] rolanddes1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I went into Apple ecosystem after I tried most smartphone operating systems and leading brands back in 2008. It was hands down the best. Now after all these years I am locked in. I bet there are a lot of good phones. But it seems too much of a hassle to move since I have iphone macbook airpods apple tv etc.

[–] parijatjha47@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can’t care less about ecosystem and all that stuff. I use iPhone for 2-3 core reasons:

  1. The safest choice: I know what I am getting and Apple nails the basics that other Android OEMs just don’t. iPhones are supported for a long time, the hardware lasts for a long time and they are reliable
  2. The Camera: The videos that come from iPhone blow Android out of the water
  3. The apps: Basic apps like WhatsApp, Instagram and other apps have so much better interface on iPhone than Android
[–] TheMiddleLane@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because my company requires it so they can spy on us. Apple has always produced inferior products (unless you were a graphic artist or industrial designer in the 90’s.) now they just make trash products that have the sole purpose of trying to force you to buy other Apple products so they’ll work together.

[–] Anuv77@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
  1. Ecosystem
  2. Minimalist and clean af UI
[–] Hassansirhandi5k@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Simple to use

[–] metap0br3ngNerD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For me:

  1. Ease of Use
  2. Zero to Minimal Ads
  3. Form Factor
[–] mohmd_shbbr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My company gave me one at a massive discount as per company policy. I already had a company provided Macbook. So went for it. Now have purchase Airpods Pro too.

[–] NoodlezBoi97@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was used to the crappy, cheap androids that you could get for free when you switched to a new line, so one day I asked my mom for the iPhone 6s. That phone is the reason why I use a 15PM today. I love the simplicity, and to be honest, I just love the look of these phones.

[–] berfito@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To take pics of my little children

[–] Hippophatamus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It all works together.

[–] WankAaron69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

FaceTime and iMessage. My entire close family is on iPhone. I used to prefer Android, but iOS has grown on me.

[–] bubbanbrenda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If I’m being honest, my son gave me his old iPhone 11 (not pro) when my Note 9 died. Turns out I kinda like it.

[–] jacoballen22@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nothing will keep you in the ecosystem quite like having kids. 😂

[–] Sean_Malanowski@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I honestly don’t know. I use iPhone for that, and that only. But everything else is Samsung, Microsoft/windows, Android, Google, etc.

[–] AntiZionistt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I bought into Steve Jobs’ vision. I’ve had every IPhone. I have a MacBook Pro, 2 IPads and an Apple Watch. 🤷🏿‍♂️

[–] redundant35@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I used android phones for years. I left an iPhone 4 because I wanted the freedom android offered. I tweaked and did this and that to my phones. Now I just want a phone. I want to call, text, occasionally FaceTime, stream..etc. nothing out of the ordinary.

iPhones just work and do everything they need to. I don’t need custom notifications and whatever else. Just a phone.
