Feels like that game didn’t give any clarity for JF1 and the next 5 games will be a continuous evaluation.

We can make the same mistake the Giants made with Daniel Jones or accept Fields is what he is. Mid 20s out of 32 QBs. Certainly not top tier. Can we win with him? Maybe? Sustained success has been elusive with him at QB.

We don’t have the answers in the coaches or the QB. One is not elevating the other and that’s your answer. Both need to go, which I hate to say because I love Justin, but this what it has been for 3 years. Flashes but ultimately more failure than success.

If Fields played anything like Danny Jones last season, this sub would be on its knees for him. I watch a lot of games, and Fields is up there with Mac Jones and ridder as the worst starting qb ive seen this year. Yet the excuses pile up

[–] Chantertwo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At some point a lack of clarity reveals clarity.

[–] pygreg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He played like crap, we saw his worst tendencies exploited, he had not one but TWO crucial turnovers in the 4th (YET. AGAIN.) and got bailed out by the Vikings ridiculous decision to stop blitzing him.

If you still need clarity after all we've seen from him, I have to ask. What would give you clarity? Describe a scenario from me that moves the needle for you.

At this point, it doesn't matter if Fields throw for 500 yards every game from here on out.

People made up their mind.

My opinion is this. If they keep Flus, keep Fields. If Flus is fired, trade Fields.

It's as simple as that.

[–] SirCharles_88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They should clean house on this whole coaching staff and let the next coach decide on the qb.

[–] Zealousideal_Bass199@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If he throws for 500 yards once this season I’ll change my mind about him.

[–] suckmyfatfuckinballs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Look not to be reaching or anything, but idk how the fuck an absolute piss poor dogshit trash organization like the Texans are able to strike gold with fucking CJ Stroud, who just happens to know how to play QB. The Bears are at worst, just as dumb (Seriously, Cal McNair might legitimately be dumber than the McCaskeys, his only upside is he isn't as cheap and actually spends $$$ for top coaching and talent).

But like it's not even like Fields is Peterman meme level of bad, he's basically Mitch-lite, which is godawful in its own right of course. Like he just doesn't throw the fucking ball, always has a fumble or interception in clutch moments, and is just ultra conservative in general which always backfires, much like Eberflus' coaching.

[–] Dilligaf_1963@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No...he's done. Missing wide open receivers and not protecting the football. No more evaluation needed.

[–] 82ndGameHead@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It was always gonna be like that. Can't judge it off of one game.

[–] Standard_Employee751@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It just proved how clutch he is.

[–] WayneJarvis_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes it's still very much in question, and I think that how the Panthers finish the season will ultimately have a bigger impact on the Bears decision than how Fields plays. That's a guess on my part, since I don't expect any huge changes in how Fields plays down the stretch. If the Bears end with the ability to take one of the top 2 QB prospects then I think there is a very good chance they take one of them. If the Panthers end up winning a few games, then the Bears probably go BPA and keep Fields around.

[–] paul_kinsey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think there was ever a reality where a single game was going to be the eureka moment good or bad.

Any good performance would tempered by his inconsistent past while a bad performance in any one game might not be the nail in the coffin for him.

At this point I think as fans the vast majority have picked what camp they are in and every game will only reaffirm that position good or bad

[–] Tedy_Duchamp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It just reinforced the truth that he’s not an NFL caliber QB. Anything else is just copium

[–] GreatGirthy1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good enough to be a backup for sure

[–] BuffaloBrain884@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fields looks like a rookie QB who's still figuring out how to play the position.

The Bears have been near the bottom of the league in passing yards every year Fields has been a starter.

I personally think the front office is ready to move on. Fields has had 35 games to prove himself and it hasn't happened.

[–] TechnoTyrannosaurus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No he doesn’t, he looks like he’s playing for a coach that has no idea how to call plays.

[–] Electrical-Camel1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Getsy sucks, but he's also coaching for a job - whether it be this one here or a chance somewhere else next season. If he truly thought Fields had the ability to consistently process pre-snap blitz reads, he would have called more aggressive plays. The coaches don't have the confidence in fields to do what he needs to do to make big plays down field against blitzes. It just is what it is at this point.

[–] Average_ChristianGuy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If Getsy was fired or replaced we'd have a fair evaluation of Fields. That won't happen this season, so Fields is done in Chicago. He will probably go to Atlanta and ball the f*** out and set records there. I just wish we had a chance to see Fields without throwing 20 screens a game.

[–] Awalawal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Unless Atlanta gets a new head coach, no one is going to Atlanta to "ball the f*** out."

[–] Dapper-Anywhere-4963@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Did you ever consider this is the game plan because fields is just black Mitch trubisky.

“They don’t let him use his athleticism and they don’t call bootleg even though he does really well in it.”

[–] TerrrorTown75th@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All I know is Im glad none of you are GMs

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fields isn't anywhere near as good as Cutler. Until we see someone who can at least be an average to above average NFL QB like Cutler we need to keep drafting new guys.

[–] Guhonda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I disagree. Last night gave us a ton of clarity on Fields. The coaching staff didn't trust him to throw vertically. The few times he did drop back, he held the ball way too long and didn't step up in the pocket. Then he fumbled twice when it mattered the most.

Our defense won the game. Fields was just a passenger. Yes, Getsy was terrible. He and Fields can both be bad.

It's very much time for a new QB (and coaching staff).

[–] ArchibaldNemisis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think any game has given us clarity. He's had a few good games but even then it's like "okay let's string it together". The truth is that most likely the rest of this season will play out how the season has played out so far. A lot of "we still don't know what to think" games from JF with some moments of brightness and moments of "oh that was terrible." That's the way the offense has been called and designed.

At this point, Fields is really going to have to rise up above the offense and hopefully he has it but don't really know. Chances are we end the season with the feeling we have now. We have no idea if he's worth picking up the 5th year option or do we pick a QB.

[–] 2017_2017@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Let's fire Eberflus & let the new HC figure it out.

[–] theskyalreadyfell217@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just don’t get it. He played pretty will in the scripted portion and then had one good throw to end the game.

That’s just not enough. We know who he is and we are seeing his ceiling. The unfortunate thing is that ceiling is just not high enough.

Ending up with picks in the top five, let alone top three or number 1 overall is super rare. With everything we have seen from him over three years, the org will have no choice but to take a shot on another QB.

We cannot let ourselves get stuck in the QB purgatory that is drafting in the middle of the first round without an answer at QB.

[–] qb1avellini@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At what point does the ambiguity of whether Fields is good or not become the answer?

[–] Dazed_and_Confused44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Its not a question at this point.

The game last night was a microcosm of Justin's time here. Some flash plays that leave you wanting more.

But ultimately when we need a big throw to convert on third and long to move he chains, he can't do it consistently. When we need him to be a difference maker in the redzone and punch the ball into the endzone, he can't do it. When we need a drive to win the game late in the 4th quarter, majority of the time he can't do it.

I know he technically led a game winning field goal drive last night. But let's be honest, he was fortunate to get multiple chances at it despite fumbling twice late in the 4th. He's only been able to do it 3 times in 3 seasons.

As badly as I wanted Justin to work out, it's just not going to happen. In his third year he hasn't developed the skills necessary to play QB at the NFL level. So with the opportunity to take a highly regarded QB prospect at the top of the draft, we have to move on.

[–] Zsean69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It was always going to be the final 7 now 5 games for evalutation. It was never going to stop after 1 or 2

[–] theskyalreadyfell217@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Last night we won in spite of Fields, not because of Fields.

[–] mudflap21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve seen enough. I can’t recall a QB who had 30+ starts and then developed into a franchise QB.

At this point you know. I don’t think the Texans are questioning if Stroud is their QB.

[–] BIG_FICK_ENERGY@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s his third season. If his future is still in question, that means it really isn’t and it’s time to move on
