No apple TV please. Needs to support some kind of casting, and the addition of whatever googles casting is would be nice (for an oculus)

Rpi + LineageOS Android TV + SmartTube + Jellyfin + Bluetooth pilot + MiraCast

Oof. This summarizes perfectly what it's like to give a shit about privacy.

I believe that doing these few things that we can do is a very low price to pay in the fight against a multi-billion dollar corporation

There's also this thing: https://fcast.org/

I haven't tried it, but it looks promising.

Oh, and it's also MIT licensed, unlike another FUTO project.

I just got the Nvidia Shield Pro (2019) model on sale during BF sale, totally a game changer for us! Although some tweaks are needed when first setup, such as ProjectIvy to replace AndroidTV bloat screen and Button Remapper to remap Netflix button on the remote to whatever else you want it to launch.

Fun fact for shield owners:

If you block this domain with your dns ad blocker, the default launcher will only show ads for the YouTube, Google TV, and Google Play Store apps (not individual shows). I find these to be far less annoying as they use muted tones.

If you have already setup your device and currently see ads, you need to reset the android tv home application data to get rid of them. This will temporarily show you the old dashboard, but the new one will load eventually (without ads).

Nice one, although I personally find it better to use Project Ivy or any other custom launcher instead.

How do you cast with that setup?

I got the kodi app for android and when sharing a button shows with the option "play on kodi"

This is not my preferred option (other comment suggestions are more privacy respecting) but just so you have more information, Roku TVs have Miracast built in.

Roku supports chromecast (and airplay, if/when needed)
