You don't need to DELETE all your comments, you can edit them all. I used the PowerDeleteSuite. Set the options to delete my posts, but not delete my comments. I then had it edit my comments with a paragraph about Lemmy and moving to it.

This is a great way to advertise Lemmy, over the long term.

So far it's at a staggering 7500 comments edited. All advertising Lemmy.

So that's an option. Then it's done and reddit is behind me. Lemmy all the way.

I hope this helps

That's an amazing approach, thanks for sharing!

Megachad here. I might do the same. F reddit!

umm... yes, this is brilliant!

It would also be nice to be able to post some alternative comms if you know what sub you are in. then you can say "join this Comm!"

There is a setting per subreddit so you could do that I guess. Just click one sub and write a new comment.

Rip I wish I saw this earlier

Thought about doing this. I'm glad Power Delete Suite has this option.

For now it does

Thanks for the suggested tool! Reading up on it now. For others interested.

Plan to do this within the next several days.

[–] SmugBedBug@lemmy.iswhereits.at 1 points 2 years ago

I'm going to have to do this. This is brilliant!

Excellent idea! Would ne vert hard to censor singe they are comments sprinkled all overt the site by multiple users. Also gives larger visibility.

Good approach, but I'm personally not deleting anything. I've made some helpful posts and comments that I want to show up in searches in the future. If I didn't have those, I'd totally take the same approach, but I'm all for archiving everything on the internet, and I'm not gonna let some doofus of a man change that.

There is a feature to not edit comments that have more than X upvotes. So in theory, most useful information should be upvoted more than the rest.
