Meanwhile I'm sitting here with my partner watching the One Piece Wano arc and we keep laughing at how THE MOST EVIL GUY IN THE WORLD has not misgendered his trans child even one time. Or any of the other trans people him or his gang is actively trying to kill. Nor has anyone in his pirate crew.
The most evil guy in the One Piece world isn't even a transphobe and doesn't have any obvious transphobes in his like 20k member large comically evil pirate crew. That's literally how easy it is to not be transphobic. And yet it's too hard for folks like this.
I cringed hard when okama were introduced, which gradually turned to confusion as a bunch of stuff was perfectly respectful towards their gender identity despite their horrendously caricatured appearances. Still not sure how much of it is Oda's political understanding expanding and how much of it was a point about the fear of trans people.

One Piece is very popular with Palestinians. I've seen the Straw Hat flag a number of times from the resistance. Makes sense with how the Celestial Dragons behave just like zionists. Kuma's backstory with his father getting shot in front of him for being too loud reminded me of something I saw an IDF soldier do.
One Piece seems very popular with young people in general worldwide
Late response but I'm still not used to that being the case. I remember when it was the complete opposite and finding someone else who liked it was like getting a winning lottery ticket.
