I just checked their website, and while yes, they do have gorgeous cases, I was genuinely mindblown to see their average is between $75 and $120.

I have a high income so it's genuinely not about money, I just don't see how creating a case can be so expensive?

Not me not ever!

[–] kyiecutie@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I bought one for my 12 pro max. It retailed for around $75, I had a 30% code and there was another promo so it ended up being like $45. Pretty normal price for a case I’d say. They usually run promos and if you look, there will ALWAYS be a discount code available for use. In terms of quality, it’s definitely not a shitty case. The more expensive ones are often that price because they collaborate with individual artists so they have to pay a portion out.

[–] VZYGOD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah that shits a scam. My girlfriend bought one less than a year ago for her XR and the frame just popped out. It was supposed to have some shock absorbing thing but it’s unusable. My Apple silicon MagSafe case for my 12 Pro is poor quality but ultimately lasted longer (since the launch of that phone)

[–] cant-rain-allthetime@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would never pay that much for their cases personally

[–] Inside_Name1054@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I paid 35 dollars for mine off of Amazon for my 15 pro one.

[–] 0oWow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Side note: If anyone hates cases, but wants the absolute minimum paper thin case for scratch protection, totallee has them on their website with Black Friday prices. I picked up the ultra slim magsafe i15p version for $23, normal $45. Keep in mind that it has no screen bump, so you may want a glass screen protector.

Congrats on the high income

Yikes, I didn't realize they were that much.

I paid $60 for the leather 8-bit Pikachu  Watch strap and I feel like it was worth every penny (though, I look at the yellow now and it seems to have lost its luster).

I really wanted that Pokeball AirPods Pro case but it sold out too quickly.

[–] thomasboleyn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The quality of their cases is pretty shit IME.

[–] mattdean1003@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I paid $30 for my Speck grip phone case for my 13, and it’s been fine for 2 years now.

Used an otter box almost all my life. Having this slim case is like a dream.

[–] isbilly@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They sell well because YouTubers convince their audience that (Insert Product name here) will make you happier and more popular. It's dumb as heck, 90% of tech YouTube is just paid advertisements and volunteers giving free publicity in hopes of getting a product free in the future from the company and becoming a YouTube star. It's sad.

[–] cronin1024@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The only people with Casetify cases are the influencers they paid to market them

[–] ChrisOnEarth1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have no idea how much I paid but I have a Casetify case. I didn’t know anyone who had one nor did I know it was the “in thing” as others have stated. I bought mine in a rush on iPhone 15 release date, but it’s already all scratched up and looks horrible.

[–] sehtownguy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Geniuses buy fine woven cases, what do you think lmao

[–] anonspace24@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can say that for the past 3-4 years, I have always used CASETiFY including my family members. It has help up pretty good and we have dropped our phones so many times. They also have good customer service

[–] Imaginary_Leek6044@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Most I’ve ever paid for iPhone case is about $50 from case-mate. That was when I purchased my first iPhone on my own phone line. Now I know better and I currently have a $2 case from SHEIN on my 14 plus

[–] MoterBortles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can’t live without my loopy case and it’s 40 bucks. 100 sounds absolutely absurd

[–] NoUsernamesss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] DarkLord55_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Me currently using a $17 CAD spigen case and have been using spigen cases forever now almost 10 years

[–] Noel_Fletcher@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

before i lost it, i loved my dbrand grip case, which was not that pricey but was pretty expensive. i miss the buttons the most. my $10 case’s buttons are frustratingly unsatisfying to press

[–] Significant-Brush-26@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i just buy a 5-15 dollar case on amazon, never had an issue, plus i like changing things often so i like being able to have a new case every few months

[–] Available-Control993@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah. I have two Bounce cases from them, a regular black one and an Evangelion one. I tried several cases from different brands like otterbox, spigen, but I loved how ultra protective Casetify bounce cases are and I enjoy how they feel in the hand the most because other cases felt cheap to me.

[–] iamrehpotsirhc@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I get more compliments about my $20 Amazon case than I ever did when I used to rock a Casetify - they didn't used to be as expensive as they were but tbh they're not even slightly worth it. They weren't even that great of quality imo.

[–] CrippleSlap@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

average is between $75 and $120

And costs them $2-$3 to make

[–] Mercutio999@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This case is made from aircraft black boxes recovered from actual plane crashes.

[–] fyrelawd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I bought one for my iPhone 11, I think it was $70 and it was amazing the print stayed and the case was high quality. I bought one for my mini and one for my wife’s 12, the print scratched off my wife’s case, so they replaced it, once, but the print was gone the next month. The case for my mini fell apart, so they replaced it, once, and it fell apart within a week. I was pissed because they were expensive and when I complained all they offered me was 20% off another case, and I just kept saying why would I spend any money on a case that’s going to fall apart again? I would not and have not bought anything else from them since

[–] OverlyOptimisticNerd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I hate their cases but my wife swears by them. To each their own. She spend about $80-$90 on a new one with each phone upgrade we get.

[–] ContentHost4459@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wouldn’t recommend casetify. They’re trash, I gifted my bf one and he dropped his new iPhone and it shattered.

Not to mention the design on the bag easily peels off with normal wear.

[–] spatchi14@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve got an otterbox case which at full price is $120+. I got it from Amazon for $40.

[–] Mnml_Id@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I never spent more than 10€ for a case

[–] jgjk8a@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Its cause it's the new in thing now. Everybody that has an iphone has to have a casetify case on it. Like a trend, everybody's doing it. I wanna do it. I don't care how much it costs.

[–] Naus1987@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I find it kinda mind-blowing how you can proclaim to have a high income and can't wrap your head around luxury products.

I'm sure you've paid incredible mark-ups for some of your outfits, even though you could have bought the fabric itself for like 5% of the cost of the outfit, or gotten a t-shirt at Walmart for 5 bucks.

And this is an iphone sub of all places. Apple has a pretty big history of marking items up at crazy prices just for branding.

I don't use a Castify case, but I'm assuming that because they market and brand a lot that they're trying to be mid-tier luxury phone cases.

[–] walkinginshadows407@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m a Nomad fan personally

[–] rpungello@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just remember that, back in the early days of the app store, somebody made an app called "I am rich". They listed it for $999, and all it did was display a photo of a gemstone. 7 people bought it.

There's a saying "a fool and his money are easily parted", and so long as that holds true, there will be people taking advantage of it. And honestly? I can't blame them. If you can figure out how to swindle somebody out of $100 for a $10 product, all the power to you.

[–] DashSatan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t think I’ll ever find a case I like as much as the Caudabe Sheath honestly. $39 which is still pretty steep for a case in my mind. I usually go Spigen on Amazon lol.

[–] SocksForWok@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Try $250 for Element cases, they're really good.

[–] Hennessy_Halos@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

my £15 case feels exactly the same as the expensive ones, i don’t see any difference in the 50 plus ones

[–] MistaKrebs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have the Casetify Impact Clear Case and I love it honestly. It was expensive yeah but I know my phone is going to be fine if I drop it and it feels great to hold.

[–] throw_away_8224@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s a “lifestyle” product. Just like the outrageously priced patagonia fleeces, stanley cups, and birkenstocks.

[–] Shady_Hero@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

just get an OtterBox and slap some stickers on it

[–] bigdogxxl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I bought a Casetify case (on sale though, I probably wouldn't have paid full price for it).

It's a nice case and has a design I liked from an artist I've followed for a while, plus it feels pretty solid and has withstood a couple of nasty drops pretty well.

It's just over a year later and the case is still holding up really well, although my wife's case (different design but also Casetify) fell apart after about 8 months.

I like the case I have from them but given what happened to my wife's one, I probably wouldn't buy from them again. My wife now has Spigen case that was cheaper but feels about as nice as the Casetify, but just looks a lot more generic.

[–] SmellyToesSuckEmHoes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Seller price it whatever sells. Its the people who buy it. I mean how can you be so dumb to spend 100 fucking dollar on a phone case or even 50.

U can order better cases from china under 10$ and they are as safe as the overpriced ones.

[–] Dakotahray@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] MaxTrixLe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yup and they swear it’s the best case they’ve owned in their lifetime 🤣 it’s crazy how easy people are to swindle with smart marketing tactics

[–] aquatone61@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Of course they do or they wouldn’t be a business. Me, I’m buying Spigen lol.

[–] Gracier1123@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have been using exclusively Casetify cases for about 3 years. I’ve never paid more than 60 dollars for a case on there as I usually use a YouTuber coupon code but their cases are actually really protective even the lesser versions. Hopefully I won’t jinx it but I’ve never had a phone break and I’ve always had good reliability, my first case broke after about a year and a half of use but I was getting a new phone anyway. I’ve had this new phone case for now about a year and a half and it is showing no signs of issues, wearing well and still no breakage.

[–] unkn0wn4041@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Since I have an iPhone 11, I only pay about $40 for their cases. Still expensive for a phone case, but for the price of two (Evangelion and One Piece case), any iPhone user above mine would be paying about the same for one.

[–] boweslightyear@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They’re the absolute upper limit of what I would pay for a phone case, but now that I’ve gotten a Casetify clear case, I’m convinced. As someone who bought Apple cases previously for years, the quality here is much nicer and the protection-to-bulkiness ratio has been bar-none for me so far. The anti-yellowing is magic and the customization all together justifies the price (I paid $90 each for a Venom branded case and a customized design clear case for my SO with discounts applied) against a market of Apple asking for $70 for silicon or $80 for finewoven/leather cases that never last longer than a year.

[–] DynamicBeez@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There’s a brand on Amazon that makes quality cases that are like the castify cases called Mosnovo. Generally $18-$30. The designs are on the limited sign, but they’re great.

[–] endymion_frs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They had an Eva collab recently, but I didn’t pony up $100. Only like $60 I think? Normally I just have random AliExpress cases though
