Filter by "All" or "Local", not by "Subscribed" and subscribe to those that are good

[–] Samsy@lemmy.ml 20 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Good advice, but last time I sort by "All new" it gaves me mental illnes.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 17 points 2 years ago

Tbh doing the same on Reddit does the same thing. Only there's a ton more of it which somehow makes it worse.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 years ago

"All new" is ludicrous. "All Active/Hot" to find communities, once you're subscribed, "Subscribed New" is fine.

Imo lemmy's Active is r*ddit's Hot and lemmy's Hot is Rising but that's just my impression

You can block that here. If you want.

Yeah pretty much, you need to do some heavy blocking for All to be usable, I wish there was an All (filtered) mode, like Subscribed but in reverse. With Subscribed you see nothing except what you want to see, with All (filtered) you would see everything except what you don't.

Once you finish: "I can see why Lemmy's user base is dwindling".

Been on lemmy for three years and I've never really lacked for content though.

[–] WashedOver@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My default was Active, but I've switched to Hot for All.

More new things but not a lot of comments. Kind of nice to get in on the ground floor for those wanting to comment though...

I prefer Scaled over Hot as it gives boost to smaller communities making it more fair.

[–] SheDiceToday@eslemmy.es 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Scaled? Is that an instance-specific thing you have? I don't have it on mine.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hmmm...

It's mentioned here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html so I thought I just didn't notice it before.
My home instance is currently on Lemmy 0.19.0-rc.5, so there's some new features, and I thought this one was here already since it's mentioned on join-lemmy.org.

Anyway, there's also "controversial" in this new version. Currently the most controversial post on Lemmy is this: https://lemmy.world/post/3234363

Sorry if I caused confusion to someone else than myself.

[–] WashedOver@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 years ago

Sounds interesting. Not an option yet on Sync though

[–] leaky_shower_thought@feddit.nl 2 points 2 years ago

I think it depends on the version.

... and yeah, might be an instance thing now that I thought about it longer. Some instance versions (that I've seen so far) dance from 0.18 to 0.19

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 2 years ago

Psh, real Lemmy users sort by "Old".

[–] dipshit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

post the content you wish to see in this world

[–] DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That requires effort...I'll pass

[–] dipshit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

When I run out of lemmy I check out mastodon for a bit. When I run out of that, I go outside and play with the kittens.
