Beats Flex connects to iPhone 13 but won't automatically play (alien.top)

I am having to go in after each connection and manually select Beats Flex in Air Play, which of course is less than ideal. Have tried forgetting device, fully resetting device, not sure what else to do. Anyone figured this out?
